Position Type
Full-time (This is a 5-day, on-site position located in our downtown Toronto, Ontario office, as we feel this is the best way to learn from your colleagues and become part of the SIGNAL team. Occasional work from home days are granted to assist with the managing the priorities in life.)
Job Summary
You will:
Assess and evaluate new business risks, endorsements and renewals within SIGNAL Underwriting's industry sectors
Negotiate renewal terms for the retention of individual insureds and have a retention target.
Underwrite to meet any required rate plan ad have rate target.
Utilize loss control and Risk Management practices in the underwriting process
Work with junior members of the team in applying SIGNAL's underwriting standards and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Underwrite risks that fit within our existing product offerings, which can include Miscellaneous E&O, Media E&O, Technology E&O, Directors & Officers, and Non-Profits. Duties include but are not limited to:
o Learning and applying our underwriting guides for your assigned classes of business
o Logging new submissions into our policy management system
o Pricing and quoting risks within your underwriting authority statement
o Referring risks to management that are outside of your underwriting authority statement
o Issuing policy documentation
o Handling mid-term policy changes and cancellation requests, including using the policy management system
o Participate in Peer audits
Work with our partner brokers: Duties include but are not limited to:
o Developing mutually rewarding relationships with our partners
o Responding to inquiries and sharing experience and knowledge of our product segments
o Keeping our policy management system up to date with brokerage and individual broker details
o Keeping files up to date by saving and filing email communications
o Communicating in advance of policy renewals to facilitate a timely renewal process
Engage with our carrier partners on individual risks: Duties include but are not limited to:
o Participating in monthly underwriting meetings
o Consulting with them and management on referrals outside of delegated authority
Perform other administrative tasks, as needed
Qualifications:

Experience:
o 3 - 5 years commercial insurance underwriting experience
o Skilled in underwriting 3 or more Professional Lines products, including but not limited to Directors & Officers, Miscellaneous E&O, Media, Technology, Non-Profits
o Good working knowledge of Professional Liability
Education:
o University degree or college certificate/diploma (preferred), plus relevant work experience
Professional Certification:
o Completed or working towards completion of an insurance Industry designation like CIP, CRM, RPLU

o Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel
o Strong written and verbal communication skills
