Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Liability Underwriter to join our Eastern Region Casualty team in Montreal.
Reporting to the AVP, Liability Manager, Eastern Region, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal casualty business, build lasting relationships with clients and distributors, and help deliver exceptional service to our customers--all supported by a dedicated local team of Underwriting Assistants, Liability Risk Engineers, International Service Specialists, Pricing Actuaries, and an industry-leading claims team.

What you will do
Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, rating manuals, and compliance with insurance laws and regulations.
Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and respond to other business-related needs.
Build and maintain relationships with agents and brokers to support business retention, acquisition, and customer solutions.
Act as a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers, supporting Zurich's sales culture.
Proactively seek opportunities for renewals and new accounts.
Assess opportunities with key distributors to identify growth areas.
Qualify accounts to align with Zurich's appetite and sound business opportunities.
Make broker and customer calls with a planned, well-prepared purpose.
Cross-sell additional lines of business to increase Zurich's product offerings.
Promote Zurich's products and services for greater market penetration.
Participate in Sales Team meetings as related to assigned brokers and territory.
Manage a list of target opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.
Update required systems with details of broker/client visits and account status within specified timelines.
Serve as the key contact for assigned target accounts.
Accurately calculate target pricing using underwriting tools.
Measure exposures and analyze risks.
Quote, set coverage, and negotiate terms and conditions.
Service accounts and handle declinations/cancellations.
Participate in marketing presentations to assigned agents/brokers.
Resolve technical problems using established policies and procedures.
Provide technical expertise for short-term, defined-scope projects.
Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory controls governing work practices.
Collect evidence from established sources to deliver accurate decisions and facilitate broader customer decision-making.
Monitor underwriting processes to identify improvement opportunities.
Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the Commercial Insurance or Market Facing area
OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
AND
Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment
Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines
Preferred:
Bachelors Degree with 1 or more years' experience in commercial casualty underwriting area
Strong negotiation skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Microsoft Office skills
Fluent with written and spoken French.
For positions posted in QC only:
Fluency in both spoken and written English is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.
