Project Details:
This project is a partnership with artist run centres in Canada to examine questions about how to meaningfully implement Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives (EDI) and governance in everyday operations. Our collective work will address barriers and disparities within past and present governance models to inform future policy and program design within the arts. This project is led by Principle Investigator Dr. Suzanne Morrissette and Co-Director Prof. Immony Men, in collaboration Co-Applicant Ashok Mathur and leaders from six artist-run centres across Canada: daphne art centre, Gallery 44, Trinity Square Video, Hamilton Artists Inc., grunt gallery, South Asian Visual Arts Centre.
Responsibilities:

  • Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Suzanne Morrissette, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Faculty of Arts & Science and Co-Director, Immony Men, Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Faculty of Arts & Science in support of the project’s research goals and objectives
  • Collaboration with those named on the project to lead in the development of a graphic identity, website, and promotional material for the three-year project;
  • Ongoing consultation and meeting with PI, Co-Director, Co-Applicant, and Collaborators in Toronto and remotely (hybrid remote/in-person) to develop the web + graphic design through feedback processes
  • Working with Technicians and other research personnel, where relevant, by ensuring the appropriate and safe use of materials, equipment and/or facilities
  • Participating in the provision of safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities

Qualifications:
  • Completion of a relevant undergraduate/graduate degree or current enrollment in a relevant undergraduate program and/or equivalent training and professional experience
  • An interest in and commitment to developing and supporting arts sector research that supports equity and inclusion in the arts
  • Where relevant, sound knowledge of, and commitment to, healthy and safe work practices
  • Where relevant, strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications and problem-solving skills
  • An enthusiastic and demonstrated ability for working as a part of a collaborative team with the ability to stay motivated during independent work
  • Editing skills considered an asset
  • Familiarity with the Adobe creative suite, HTML and CSS
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty

Hours of Work: A total of 500 hours over the period of September 2022 – June 2023.
Work Environment: The incumbent in this role may be expected to report to work on campus. Please review the Return to Campus Plan for up-to-date information about OCAD U vaccination requirements. All OCAD University employees are required to be fully vaccinated as a condition of hire in accordance with OCAD U’s vaccination requirement . Compensation: $20.19 (Undergraduate Rate) per hour, subject to qualifications, plus 6% in lieu of benefits plus vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act Please note the following:
  • This appointment is conditional upon funding of the Project by OCAD U’s external funding partner(s)
  • Full-time graduate students may not accept research assistantships or other university-related employment in excess of 10 hours per week (or 130 hours per semester), as mandated by the Ontario Council of Graduate Studies (OCGS).
