The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer team supports the overall mission and goals of Mayfair. This position is responsible for the performance of ultrasound examinations in accordance with the standards, practices, and code of ethics of Sonography Canada and Mayfair.
This position provides an opportunity to promote the services offered at Mayfair. Sonographers performing ultrasound procedures are in a position that requires a highly responsible and professional attitude. They are exposed to many serious and very personal issues. They must ensure the highest quality care possible in both a personal and professional manner. They are expected to work in cooperation with reception, technologist assistants, radiologists, and clinic managers as part of a team whose primary focus is to provide exemplary customer service to the patient.

This position reports directly to the Clinic Manager or Assistant Clinic Manager.

Responsibilities
Responsible for operating ultrasound equipment and performing ultrasound examinations in a safe and accurate manner in accordance with Sonography Canada standards and practice and shall adhere to their Code of Ethics.
Responsible for performing ultrasound examinations in accordance with Mayfair and Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) standards.

Provides exemplary customer service in the care of the patient:
Works in cooperation with digital imaging assistants, clinic assistants, tech assistants, radiologists, modality coordinators and clinic managers as part of a team whose primary focus is to provide exemplary customer service to the patient.
Assists patients to facilitate transport and positions while ensuring patient safety.
Ensures that there are no errors in patient identification by using 2 unique identifiers.
Introduces themselves to the patient using NOD- Name, Occupation and Duty
Explains the procedure to patient in all cases.
Provides high quality patient care and assists patients with their physical and emotional needs as they arise.
Maintains patient confidentiality as per the Health Information Act (HIA), Health Information Protection Act (HIPA), and this practice's privacy policies.
Observes Mayfair's policies and procedures
Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures:
Only perform exams in which they have obtained certification [RDMS (General), and NT (Nuchal Translucency)]
Maintains good standing with Sonography Canada including licensing and registrations.
Must carry the personal liability insurance provided by Sonography Canada
Ensures that materials, procedure area, and patient are prepared for the procedure in all cases
Ensures that a high quality of patient care and imaging standards is met.
Fosters a positive workplace and is proactive in carrying out duties and assessing current and future workload and procedures that are vital to the success of this role.
Fulfills requisitions for ultrasound services to patients without delay.
Ensures that the ultrasound equipment is utilized correctly in all cases
Ensures that the correct area is examined without error in all cases, assessing the image for quality and accuracy
Ensures that the examination is performed in the allocated time as outlined by Mayfair
Ensures that images are documented according to set procedures and protocols
Ensures that the sonographer summary and date forms are completed for each case
Ensures that all relevant information is provided to the radiologist interpreting the examination
Ensures that relevant previous images/films and reports are brought forward with the current images/films and requisition and are placed in the appropriate area for reporting
Scans requisitions and documents in Visage
Participates in the Quality Assurance program. Directs performance of assigned quality control checks, completes documentation of required information, and seeks assistance in unfamiliar situations with images and PACS
Observes Mayfair's policies and procedures
Promotes quality care and patient safety through the certification and continuing competency of ultrasound professionals
Performs some non-technical duties:
Assists in orientating new staff to department routines and standards
Participates in educational programs, seminars, in-services, and workshops deemed appropriate
Assists in the filing of reports and patient files
Documents all instances of injury or incident utilizing appropriate report forms located on SharePoint.
Contributes to the team in a positive manner, treating one another with loyalty, respect, and dignity
Contributes to sharing and teaching future sonographers who are in accredited program and Mayfair is providing the students practicums
Maintains an ongoing knowledge of clinical assistant and/or technologist assistant duties and cooperates in the performance of these duties and fills-ins whenever possible during an absence.
Performs other non-technical duties as assigned by the clinic manager(s).
Maintains assigned area:
Ensures that department and work areas are stocked with all necessary work-related supplies including paper stock, scanning supplies, and clean linens
Assists in ordering and replenishing supplies as required
Ensures the cleanliness of work areas at all times
Ensures that equipment is kept clean and transducers wiped thoroughly between patients
Maintains Patient Files
Maintains patient confidentiality as per HIA, HIPA, and this practice's privacy policies.
Performs other related duties as required.
Accepts assignments and follows direction of managers.
Qualifications
Certification in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from an accredited College or University
Active credentials and membership in good standing with Sonography Canada registered or registry eligible
Demonstrates superior ultrasound technological skills in all general exams including but not limited to abdominal, obstetric, pelvic, carotid, and venous ultrasound
Technically inclined and easily adaptable to new equipment and protocols including liver and renal Doppler transplant, peripheral arterial, upper/lower extremity, venous insufficiency, and many other physiologic tests
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, versatility, and communication skills. Cooperative and able to work independently. Must be perceptive, have initiative, good judgment, and concern for detail and accuracy
Comfort scanning patients with limited mobility
Proficiency with computers is essential
Shows interest in professional growth and maintains registry status
Complies with continuing education requirements as set out by Sonography Canada.
Working Environment
The physical requirements are those of working in a high stress clinic environment, therefore the sonographer must demonstrate an awareness of ergonomics
The individual may be on their feet for most of the day and will utilize the normal body movements of twisting, bending, reaching, and using the hands and arms in completing examinations and their associated tasks
Requires urgent response to some situations
Demonstrates proficient use of various diagnostic imaging equipment as required at our various ultrasound sites.
