Department: Kinesiology and Applied Health
Estimated Hours of Work: 50 hours
Appointment Dates: January 23, 2023 - March 31, 2023

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring to students, which may include explaining and demonstrating concepts and procedures, and clarifying subject areas;
  • Meet with students individually or as a group to resolve course-related problems;
  • Maintain regularly scheduled and posted times to provide consultation and feedback to students on coursework, quality of materials submitted for grading, and other similar matters;
  • Maintain records; may assist in the reproduction of tests; organize course materials; etc.
  • May assist with proctoring/invigilating tests, exams and quizzes;
  • Attend training related to the assigned duties and responsibilities;
  • Perform other related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Normally a graduate, Honours, or an upper-level undergraduate student at the University of Winnipeg.
  • Completion of academic studies and/or a suitable combination of education and experience related to assigned duties.
  • Successful completion of required training.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to interact empathetically with a wide variety of students.
  • Ability to provide effective and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to exercise judgement.
  • Ability to meet specified deadlines.
  • Capable of performing the duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements:
  • Supervising students in a lab on a scheduled basis during the day.
  • Maintaining an inventory of teaching resources pertinent to the student needs.
  • Maintaining a record of attendance for open study sessions.
  • Providing mentorship and tutoring to students needing assistance with studying and practical application of the course work.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of Kinesiology subject matter including a Grade of B or greater in at least 4 of the following courses: Human Anatomy; Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries; Rehabiltitation of Upper and Lower Limb Athletic Injuries; Massage Techniques; Taping and Splinting Techniques; Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Scientific Principles of Fitness and Conditioning.
  • Works well unsupervised, good communication skills, patience when explaining concepts to others and answering questions.
Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Students must be approved for the 2022-23 Work-Study program. Students may be eligible for the Work-Study Program if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • Currently registered in an undergraduate or graduate program at The University of Winnipeg
  • Enrolled full-time (ex. 18 credit hours or more)
  • Completed 30 credit hours at an undergraduate level at The University of Winnipeg (or equivalent. I.e. in a graduate program)
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0
  • Demonstrate financial need (shortage between your expenses and resources), and
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person or an international student with a valid study permit.
