Research Assistants are normally students, in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate program, employed to assist with tasks related to research. Work is performed within defined guidelines and under supervision of a more senior researcher or faculty member.

Position Overview:

The Research Assistant will help me with data entering, analysis and literature survey. Lab works included. The research is related to my NSERC DDG grant "Immobilization of Vanedium using oxides and biochar in soils"

Duties:

  • The selected candidate would be required to enter data to excel sheets, arrange them, analysis and present results in table and graphical forms under my supervision and instructions.
  • A literature survey on a given title should be conducted as well.
  • Lab works including weighing of soils, pH measurements, set-up of incubation study will be part of the work.
Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate student in their final year of BSc with soil and chemistry background is suitable for this position.
  • Lab analytical skills are expected.
  • Must have knowledge on Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Should know how to use search engines (Google scholar or any other), with good scientific writing skills.
  • Knowledge on SPSS would be an advantage.
  • Basic science courses with labs (Chemistry / Biology / Soil Science) would be an added advantage.
Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Students must be approved for the 2022-23 Work-Study program. Students may be eligible for the Work-Study Program if they meet all of the following criteria:
  • Currently registered in an undergraduate or graduate program at The University of Winnipeg
  • Enrolled full-time (ex. 18 credit hours or more)
  • Completed 30 credit hours at an undergraduate level at The University of Winnipeg (or equivalent. I.e. in a graduate program)
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0
  • Demonstrate financial need (shortage between your expenses and resources), and
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person or an international student with a valid study permit.
The period of work will be from ASAP - March 1, 2023 and the estimated total hours of work will be 78 hours.

Note: This position is represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada - Research Capacity Unit.
