Job Description


As our Turbo Machinery/Centrifugal Compressor Technician, you will be a primary service and maintenance contact for customers located in Western Canada. Responsible for keeping industrial air compressors and control systems running correctly. This is the perfect opportunity for candidates with previous experience in a Service Technician role or similar. We are seeking candidates eligible for employment in the Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta region.

In this extremely unique and specialized role you will be responsible for starting and commissioning new systems, diagnosing, and repair of compressed air and drying systems, utilizing knowledge of electronics, direct digital control, airflow, mechanical compression, refrigeration theory, and control and mechanical techniques in diverse commercial settings. Additionally, you will engage in the retrofit and repair of centrifugal compressed air systems, utilizing knowledge of air compression theory, pipe fitting, and mechanical layouts.

Previous compressed air knowledge is an asset for this position.   • Equipment installations and start-ups, preventive maintenance, diagnostic inspections, and troubleshooting and repair of compressed air equipment to assure equipment is meeting operating and quality standards.
  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers through effective oral and written communication skills via phone, computer, and face to face.
  • Maintain rapport with customers by addressing complaints, identifying solutions, suggesting improved methods and techniques and recommending system improvements.
  • Responsible for end-to-end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects.
  • Represents the company by serving as the direct customer contact and is responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects, ensuring customer satisfaction by identifying, analyzing, diagnosing and repairing equipment and systems at customer\xe2\x80\x99s location.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, site surveys, and service requests including replacement, and modifications of equipment or systems as need or requested by customers.
  • Coordinates with team leader and customer to precisely understand requirements for all on-site installation and repairs by extensively examining compressor facility layouts, gathering materials and synchronizing on-site work.
  • Responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction to include training and follow-up training.
  • Uses hand tools and software and technology, following schematics and engineered drawings or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
  • Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
  • Organizes and complies with all pertinent documentation needed on a daily/weekly/monthly basis to successfully manage the businesses required reports.
  • Independently manages daily business needs by identifying parts to order for repairs and determines the urgency of the requirement.
  • Remains current on Ingersoll Rand products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of compressed air systems and PLC Controls.
  • Recommends parts and services to customers and assistance with follow-up through to successfully acquiring customer approval.
  • Daily/weekly travel to customer sites located in various regions of Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Displays team effort and dedication to customer by maintaining flexibility to work overtime and weekends as the business requires, including overnight travel depending on customer location and requirements.
  • Accurately document service and installation activities by completing work orders for each job, maintenance checklists, and daily time sheets.
  • Promote all company products, services and solutions; such as equipment, system accessories, planned maintenance, diagnostics, audits and leak detection.
  • Ability to communicate value and increase customer\xe2\x80\x99s awareness of how these items can benefit their operations.
Qualifications:
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude are key qualifications for this position.
  • High school diploma. Post secondary and/or related technical training and experience preferred.
  • Previous turbo machinery/centrifugal air compressor service experience is an asset for this position.
  • Applicants with mechanical, millwright, HVAC, electrical/electronics, and compressed natural gas experience will receive special consideration.
  • Basic knowledge of some or all of the following is preferred: AC/DC circuits, wiring diagrams/schematics, motors/controls, PLCs, HVAC, electricity, controls, refrigeration systems and/or refrigerant certification. Candidates who possess related knowledge or skills but have not completed a formal program may be considered.
  • Training is comprised of job shadowing, hands-on field work, online training, and formal classroom training.
  • Travel to Ingersoll Rand\xe2\x80\x99s corporate training facility in the USA is periodically required.
  • Valid Canadian passport with the ability to travel across Canada and the US.
  • Use of precision measuring tools for diagnostic trouble shooting of compressed air equipment.
  • Comprehension of all operations and parts manuals associated with all equipment.
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with laptops and hand-held computers and devices (iPhone, iPad).
  • Candidates must have their own set of standard tools. All other specialty and diagnostic tools will be supplied by the company.
  • This position requires working in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, hot and cold weather conditions, equipment with risk of electrical shock (high voltage), and the use of ladders and aerial platforms.
  • This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, and kneeling.
  • Employees may regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs, and frequently lift and or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift and or move more than 50 lbs.
  • No criminal record.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License with no major traffic violations, suspensions, or DUI\xe2\x80\x99s in previous five years. Driver\'s abstract required.
