The Vountary Housing Trusteeship Worker is responsible for intake, assessment, money management, financial literacy education, trusteeship services and service planning for clients in Toronto. The Trusteeship Worker will report to the Executive Director of Neighbourhood Information Post, the Trusteeship Team Lead, and work closely with a team of six other trusteeship workers.
Responsibilities include:
Answer inquiries about the trusteeship program;
Intake and Assessment;
Provide itinerary/mobile trusteeship services;
Cash management;
Carry out banking transactions;
Help clients access additional financial supports;
Help establish/improve clients' relationships with landlords, creditors, service providers and banking institution and develop payment plans;
Maintain detailed case notes and financial records;
Assist clients in acquiring I.D.'s and obtaining bank accounts when needed;
Provide case management, budgeting assistance and money management services, life skill training, financial literacy education and ongoing support to clients to help stabilize their housing situation and move towards greater independence;
Provide guidance and advice on managing small amounts of cash and bill payments;
Resource counselling and advocacy;
Attend relevant training and meetings;
Perform other related duties as required by the Executive Director;
Be available in the office to assist with reception duties, including greeting and supporting walk-in clients, answering phone calls, releasing program cheques, and performing general front desk responsibilities when needed.
Requirements and Qualifications:
College Diploma in business administration/finance or related discipline or equivalent experience;
Minimum 2 years of related work experience;
Experience in social services an asset;
Excellent record-keeping skills;
Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with mental health/addiction issues;
Experience in money management and financial literacy and managing cash;
Knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act;
Understanding of issues confronted by the homeless/under-housed population;
Ability to work well independently and in a team with demonstrated flexibility and adaptability;
Strong oral and written English communication skills;
Computer proficiency, particularly with MS Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint etc);
Attention to detail and accuracy;
Demonstrated organizational, planning and facilitation skills;
Able to prioritize effectively;
Effective problem-solving skills;
Reliability and integrity;
Ability to deal with irate and abusive clients;
Able to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural environment with sensitivity and empathy;
Must be bondable (provide satisfactory police record or some other reference to responsibility for money; requirement to maintain confidential records, etc.).
