OVERVIEW

Dentons is currently seeking a Trust Specialist to join our Edmonton office. This role is an 18-month contract position requiring the successful candidate to work daily in person in the office. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor for Edmonton, the Trust Specialist will be responsible for managing trust fund activities as outlined below.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor several Trust bank accounts daily and receipt funds (cheques, EFTs, direct deposits, wires, e-transfers).
  • Accountable to verify Trust balances and disburse Trust funds by cheques as requested.
  • Manage outgoing wires and transfers through online banking.
  • Responsible for the setup of Trust fund investments, redeeming funds and monitoring investment maturity dates.
  • Reconcile Trust investments on a monthly basis.
  • Process trust transfer payments daily.
  • Process payments to invoices on a monthly basis.
  • Respond to queries from stakeholders (lawyers, law clerks, legal assistants, banking representatives) in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Ad-hoc assistance with other Finance areas (such as billing and other accounting needs).
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Successful completion of an accounting certificate or diploma, or equivalent experience to successfully complete the essential requirements of the role.
  • Minimum 2-3 years\' previous related experience, preferably within a professional services firm.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite - including a strong working knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Law Society Trust Regulations and a working knowledge of trust audit requirements would be an asset.
  • Experience with a complex accounting system required. Experience with Elite would be an asset.
  • Experience with banking and sending wires would be an asset.
  • Strong client service orientation combined with the ability to manage multiple client needs at the same time.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, efficient and organized.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Sound judgment including the ability to deal with confidential information with utmost discretion.
  • Ability to work overtime when required to meet client demands.
  • Demonstrated commitment to privacy and ethical conduct.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
