Who We Are
's mission is to protect and defend the legal, social, and economic rights of migrants (asylum seekers, refugees, immigrants, and those with undetermined status) from lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQIA+) communities. We offer support services, group and social activities, and education and public awareness.
We apply an anti-oppressive, non-judgmental and person-centred approach, and are committed to ensuring that LGBTQIA+ migrants and refugees are at the center of our work and decision-making. AGIR is a team of 11 staff members.
Where We Are
AGIR is located in Tio'tia:ke (colonially known as Montreal) on the unceded territory of the Kanien'keha:ka. Our offices are located in the borough of Parc-Extension.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Community Programs and Communications Manager, the
Communications and Activities Worker
will play a key role in advancing AGIR's mission by developing content, campaigns, and educational tools that advocate for the rights of LGBTQIA+ immigrants and refugees. This person will help create clear, creative, and inclusive content across platforms, support public awareness initiatives, and contribute to building accessible, trauma-informed resources in collaboration with the community.
This role also supports the activities team by participating in events, helping with logistics, and promoting activities. The ideal candidate combines strong graphic and digital skills with a deep understanding of intersectionality and systemic barriers faced by LGBTQIA+ migrants.
Core Responsibilities:
Communications
Design educational and visual materials (toolkits, infographics, guides) for community use.
Produce engaging content (visuals, videos, reels, animations) for AGIR's social media, website, and newsletters.Support media and external communications related to AGIR's public presence and partnerships.
Promote AGIR's values and programming to other organizations, allies, and the public, ensuring inclusive and anti-oppressive messaging.
Monitor analytics and trends to optimize communication strategies.
Maintain and update AGIR's website and newsletter.
Content Creation and Technical Work
Lead on visual identity and design for AGIR communications and campaigns.
Create digital and print materials for awareness events and fundraising campaigns.
Edit and produce short videos or reels to amplify member voices and organizational messages.
Assist in accessibility adaptation of content (including plain language, translation coordination, etc.).
Activities Support
Support with the promotion and documentation of AGIR activities (e.g., taking photos, making event visuals).
Participate in planning and logistics for in-person and virtual activities when needed.
Support set-up, tech, or facilitation roles during occasional events (evening/weekend availability required with notice).
Internal Collaboration
Work closely with the Community Programs and Communications Manager and the rest of the team.
Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and cross-team collaborations.Engage in organizational life, including staff retreats, anti-oppression discussions, and internal projects.
Participation in AGIR's Team
Attend team meetings, staff retreats, strategic discussions, and other gatherings

Contribute to collective discussions
on the development of the organization.
Participate in internal committees and special projects
Full-time (30 hours/week). Occasional evening and weekend work would be required with notice.
Work Mode: Hybrid (in-person and remote work depending on needs)
Compensation:
$26.50/hour
Benefits:
Medical Insurance, 3 vacation weeks, 7 personal days and 3 sick days.

Desired Profile
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, public education, design, or community advocacy.
Proficiency with Canva or Adobe Suite, video editing tools (e.g. CapCut, Premiere Pro), and website management (WordPress or similar).
Proficiency in either
French
or
English
is required.
Experience in grassroots communications and campaign work, ideally within a non-profit or community-based organization.
Strong written and visual storytelling skills with attention to inclusive and accessible language.
Understanding of anti-oppression, intersectionality, and trauma-informed approaches.
Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a flexible, community-centered environment.
Alignment with Values:
Commitment to intersectional, anti-oppressive, trans-affirmative, and trauma-informed approaches.
Adherence to the principles of informed consent, harm reduction, and empowerment.
Emotional Intelligence:
Ability to build warm and compassionate connections while maintaining clear ethical boundaries.

Respect and inclusion of diverse experiences, including precarious migration status, racialization, gender diversity, mental health, substance use, and sex work.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a community-based and collaborative environment.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Gmail, Google Drive, Zoom, and basic digital tools.
Assets
Lived experience as an LGBTQIA+ migrant, refugee, or racialized person.
Multilingualism, especially in Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, and Mandarin.
Experience building awareness campaigns or toolkits.
Familiarity with accessibility standards in communications (e.g. image descriptions, alt text, plain language).
Knowledge of Montreal's LGBTQIA+ and migrant community networks.

Accessibility Information
AGIR works out of an office in Parc-Extension. All positions are required to be in office for some portion of the week, and some positions always. AGIR's office is only accessible by a staircase.
AGIR staff often work from home. We require our employees to have access to an adequate internet connection and a private workspace where they are able to participate in video conferencing, due to the confidential nature of our work. For staff working from home, AGIR will provide a computer and a work cellphone.
