Trauma Counsellor

to join their team.

All work at the Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre (DCSC) will reflect the Mission Statement and philosophical beliefs of the organization. DCSC is a not-for-profit, charitable organization that supports children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced sexual abuse or assault, and educates the public about sexual violence.

The Trauma Counsellor plays a key role in delivering trauma-informed, client-centered support to individuals and families. This includes crisis response, individual and group support, system navigation, and resource coordination. This is an outreach position serving the communities and surrounding areas of Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul, Lac La Biche, Athabasca, Slave Lake, and Wabasca. Travel to the service areas is a requirement for this position.

Trauma Counsellors will:

Provide individual counselling services and support to clients aged 4 plus including, but not limited to, intake, assessment, case planning, and follow-up. Assist with referrals to and accessing of appropriate community resources. Support client towards self-efficacy and personal wellness by providing information on the impact of trauma, affirming their resilience and promoting thoughtful informed decision-making. Collaboration in providing education and awareness community support including facilitation of workshops, presence at local community events and initiatives, and participation in community based inter-agency meetings or committees. Establish and maintain effective partnerships with agencies and professionals in both the public and private sectors, in order to supplement and enhance client service provision.
Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or other Related Fields; Bachelor of Arts with relevant experience or post grad certificate with registration (or capacity to) with a professional body may be considered. Registered or eligible for registration with appropriate professional association Knowledge of community resources and familiarity with Indigenous culture and history within Canada Comprehensive knowledge of client-centered interventions, practice methods and professional skills Able to travel to assigned service areas Working knowledge of computer software (email, internet), Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook), and electronic records management system Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team An understanding of gender issues, social justice advocacy, diversity and anti-oppressive practice are an asset Criminal Records check, Child Intervention Record check, valid Alberta Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle
