Columbia Containers is searching for a Transportation Planner to join our Transportation Department Team!

Position Overview



The Transportation Planner is responsible for the effective daily trucking planning to meet plant production. Areas of knowledge are but not limited to vessel schedules, fleet optimization, asset utilization, driver labor, plant and rail constraints, and management of 3rd party trucking companies. The position is a key central figure who understands the end-to-end production flow within Columbia Containers' operation.

Essential Job Functions



Prepare and Review POs for outsourced trucking Communications with port terminals and industry stakeholders Schedule bookings with outside trucking Plan and secure reservations at various deep-sea terminals Update daily trucking orders to comply with the rail Monitor PMV reports and cameras to update drivers on congestion issues Ensures daily optimal mix of company assets, owner operators and 3rd party contractors are deployed with the most cost-effective way Ensure Columbia Fleet compliance with Port Metro TLS and Provincial Transport regulations Establish and maintain positive working relationships with drivers, customers, steamship lines, container depot, deep seaports, Port Metro Vancouver and 3rd party trucking firms Maintain a positive flow in the yard by spacing out reservations and 3rd party trucking Optimize fleet utilization Monitor and ensure bookings are loaded for the next day to avoid reservation penalties and dead runs Attend daily operations meeting Trained and able to fill in on Dispatcher job functions Flexible hours are required throughout the year, including weekends or evenings

Competencies



Able to multitask, adapt, and execute sound business decisions in a stressful, dynamic, and fast paced environment Solid computer skills - particularly in Microsoft Excel Strong communications, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills Capable of critical and analytical thinking

Experience & Education



A minimum of two-year logistic experience in trucking or fast past logistics operations environment Knowledge of terminal reservation systems, container movement in the GVRD would be an asset Certificate / Business diploma in logistics or supply chain

This is a temporary 6-month position, with the potential to be extended based on operational needs and performance.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $62,000.00-$77,000.00 per year
