As a Transportation Engineer in the Transportation & Open Spaces division within the Project Development Business Unit, you will be part of a team that plans, optimizes, studies and designs our infrastructure investment to create inclusive, accessible, creative, and connected resilient communities. You will act as project manager responsible for business cases, project initiation, feasibility studies, concept design, and preliminary (30%) design of capital projects. Your projects will take a user-focused, holistic, and multi-disciplinary approach to advancing interchanges, major roadways, walking and wheeling (5A) routes, complete streets, open spaces, and connections for everyone to transit, recreation, schools and across Calgary. You will be working in a team environment focused on achieving great city-building outcomes, and working in complex, non-standard urban environments is the norm. Primary duties include:

Manage project scopes and budgets to achieve results aligned with business goals, community context and expectations, and corporate policies from initiation to handover to delivery teams. Oversee consultants and administer contracts, ensuring projects meet requirements, stay on schedule, within budget, and aligned with the project vision, as well as reviewing and approving changes or extensions when necessary. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, community organizations, businesses, and partners to deliver exceptional service and successful projects. Work with colleagues from across the corporation to develop strategic solutions that improve the experience of Calgarians using public spaces. Represent projects at community events, public meetings and other sessions to support project design and implementation. Respond to public, corporate and Council-related inquiries by presenting complex information in a succinct and approachable manner. Lead work in complex, unstructured situations, managing risk.


Qualifications

A degree in Civil Engineering or a related Engineering field and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. Click here for more details. Transportation engineering experience in project initiation, concept design, and functional design while working with internal and external interest holders is required. Knowledge of project management and experience with design engineering standards within a government or consulting environment is required. Experience managing planning, engineering or design consultants is required. Experience in construction and contract management is considered an asset. A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and / or IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation) designation will be considered as assets. Success in this role requires strong analytical and organizational effectiveness skills; the ability to lead and coordinate several strategic objectives; the ability to balance technical requirements with non-technical competing priorities; strong communication skills and an ability to work with external partners, Ward office staff, Councillors, and Calgarians.

Compensation: Level P3E $113,200 - 141,500 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
