What will you do in this job?:
The Dispatcher works a 4 days on, 4 days off schedule and is currently based out of Banff, is responsible for ensuring accurate, fair and efficient assignment of transportation equipment and drivers to fulfill business requirements across our network. This position is the first point of contact for tracking operations and resources, and executing daily activity for Brewster Transportation.

The ideal candidate is a positive communications professional and an organized, logistical thinker who can work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities of the position include:
  • Daily dispatching of tours and scheduled services including management of changes to scheduled business and inventory
  • Ensures all stakeholders needs are met through efficient utilization of equipment and drivers
  • Adapts and responds to cancellations and unforeseen circumstances while monitoring personnel and equipment locations
  • Communications lead for scheduling of drivers and equipment including monitoring after-hours calls and service
  • Responds to customer, maintenance or drivers email and phone calls to resolve issues in an expedited manner
  • Maintains vehicle tracking reports including pro-rated asset list and monthly scheduled maintenance (in collaboration with maintenance shop foreman) and escalates any issues to management
  • Forecasting of equipment and future business, flagging potential issues to management
  • Monitors driver hours of service and vacation time, including additional book-off requests, escalating concerns to management where applicable
  • Completes DOT Audit for each driver, reviewing a one month period once annually for compliance purposes
  • Confirms accuracy of driver pay through daily time sheet approvals
  • First point of contact for any emergency involving on-road or equipment scenarios; records and reports all safety incidents to management and supports WCB and return to work initiatives
  • Provides direction, leadership and daily support to all members of the transportation team
  • Use of radio transmission to communicate with business areas
  • Ensures delivery on key performance areas and relays feedback and solutions to the leadership team
  • Focuses on operational excellence, service standards and consistencies
  • Assists Transportation managers with tasks in a timely and detailed manner
  • Communicates positively with co-workers and management, forwards observations and comments in a timely fashion
What skills and experience do you need for this job?:
  • An interest in tourism/hospitality and the Canadian Rockies
  • Well organized and an excellent communicator with a keen sense of timeliness
  • Strong customer service skills, demonstrated attention to detail, problem solving and planning abilities
  • Mature and possess a proven ability to thrive and lead independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Able to multi-task and handle high stress situations calmly and logically
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to think on the fly and outside the box to solve problems with a positive attitude
  • Able to communicate fluently in English; ability to communicate and comprehend over two-way radio required
  • Strong administration and computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn in-house systems
  • Secondary language skills are an asset
  • Previous dispatching experience and/or experience in a union environment is an asset
  • Previous commercial driving experience including knowledge of federal hours of service and/or the National Safety Code is preferred
  • Flexible and able to work shifts
  • Willing to sign a confidentiality agreement
