Great Western Railway Ltd., a shortline railway operating over 400 miles of track in Southwest Saskatchewan is seeking a motivated, team-oriented full-time permanent manager in the capacity of Trainmaster to be based out of Assiniboia, SK. GWR was established in 2000, and proudly serves shippers in various industries including agriculture and energy. Reporting to the General Manager, as Trainmaster, your main area of priority includes the overall management of the transportation department. This position will supervise the safe execution of all operations of train and yard activities across the GWR network. This position is located in and based out of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. Responsibilities The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to the following: ? Day to day active supervision of all conductors and locomotive engineers ? Cover any vacancies in train crew operations on occasion ? Perform documented safety observations and audits of employee performance ? Perform field safety inspections ? Ensure compliance to GWR operating, safety, and organization policies ? Coach, develop and nurture the talent and skills of the transportation team members to perform as a cohesive team toward a common goal of safe and efficient operations resulting in superior service to our customers ? Manage the department with a focus built on setting high expectations for safe performance while creating a positive working environment for all front-line employees, with an emphasis on trust, positive reinforcement, appreciation, and open 2-way communication. ? Accountable for the financial results of the department with focus on key costs including labour, and fuel. ? Take part in accident, incident, and employee investigations with a focus to mitigate, reduce, and eliminate unsafe incidents. ? Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders in delivering the operating plan ? As this position has overall responsibility to train operations, this role will be required to be on call and available to the operation at all times as needed. Requirements ? Must possess a High School diploma or GED. ? Previous railway supervisory experience; ? Must have railway conductor qualification. ? Qualified Locomotive Engineer may not be required but will be considered a strong asset. ? Previous or current CROR qualification which will be required on an ongoing basis ? Must have a sincere interest in providing a positive impact on front line employee performance, well being and job satisfaction ? Must have an extreme level of commitment to creating and executing operating plans and solutions to drive the best in customer service to our shippers.
