Job Description


GardaWorld is currently seeking to hire a Training Specialist for the Yellowknife Airport. This is a union position and governed by the local Collective Agreement. Strict seniority will be observed in line with requirements below. Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Delivers on-the-job GardaWorld and CATSA-mandated training such as but not limited to: requisite post-course practical training and refresher courses, PIP/PERS and Just-in-Time training requirements, and other security and customer service training (e. g., practice sessions).
  • Monitors tests and assessments related to all elements of CATSA s NTCP program, and GardaWorld skills development sessions.
  • Supervises Screening Personnel participation in practical skills development sessions
  • Implements training for new operating procedures.
  • Supports new hire orientation training.
  • Manages and delivers individual training improvement plans.
  • Provides checkpoint & oversight support where required.
  • Provides recommendations on certification maintenance.
  • Provides coaching, correction and overall feedback to Screening Officers.
  • Intervenes immediately if parts of the screening process were not completed or if critical aspects of the screening process were performed incorrectly.
Position Requirements/ Skills and Abilities:
  • Minimum of 12 months experience working as a certified Screening Officer.
  • Minimum of 12 months with no PERs
  • Obtain a 90% or greater on the annual RLP exam
  • Obtain a 90% or greater on the national X-Ray exam
  • Must participate in all aspects of training to achieve Screening Contractor Training Representative (SCTR) qualification
  • Must be able to successfully obtain Screening Contractor Training Representative (SCTR) qualification. A maximum of 2 attempts will be given to become SCTR qualified. Failure on the second attempt will result in the candidate being ineligible from attempting the qualification program for a minimum of one year.
  • Due to operational requirements candidates are required to hold FBS ATR and NPS qualifications.
  • Candidates are required to hold PBS Advanced 3 or above XRT level qualification.
  • All endorsements must be in good standing and no performance or attendance related events (GardaWorld or CATSA issued) in previous 12 months.
  • Training Specialists will serve a 90 day probationary period after successful completion of SCTR qualification.
  • Must be open and willing to travel to other Airports to support training efforts within the Prairies Region.
  • Must have excellent communication skills; fluent in written and oral English.
  • Must have a desire for service excellence and excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have shown good team work abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be attentive to detail and able to think creatively.
  • Must be reliable, independent and able to handle stress.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • French fluency is an asset.
  • Time management/ self motivating.
