The Training and Sector Development Lead plays a pivotal role in ending homelessness in St. John's by supporting the development of a Community of Practice and a cohesive homelessness system of care for staff and agency partners of EHSJ. The ideal candidate will enjoy the opportunities and challenges of supporting a purpose-built organization working to make St. John's the next community in Canada to end homelessness.
Under the direction of the Manager of Systems Coordination, the Training and Sector Development Lead's primary goal is to support equitable service quality for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This position will do this by ensuring that staff of partner agencies have the training and supports they need to maintain a sustainable career in the sector. This will allow the EHSJ team and other homeless-serving agencies to more fully support the needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness and inform strategies to end homelessness in our community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will possess strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, including facilitation skills, as well as strong organizational skills. As an integral part of the EHSJ team, the Training and Sector Development Lead will support the implementation of the St. John's Community Plan to End Homelessness through the following responsibilities:
OVERALL
Support implementation of the St. John's Community Plan to End Homelessness (https://wecanendit.com/communityplan), particularly as it relates to Action Area #3: Build a Community of Practice and Action Area #4: Create a cohesive system of care
Develop a strong understanding of Coordinated Access, By-Name Data, Housing First, and other key concepts and systems related to ending homelessness
Build strong relationships with stakeholders including partner agencies, public systems, and training resources
Engage EHSJ's Lived Experience Council to inform the development of both a Community of Practice and a cohesive system of care
Lead the development and implementation of committees, working groups, etc. to support this work
TRAINING
Develop and implement a training framework and recurring curriculum for the St. John's homelessness system of care through a needs assessment for stakeholders and partners
Consult with local, regional and national stakeholders also engaged in training to align initiatives and resources
Be the lead point of contact for staff related to training, leveraging new and existing EHSJ communications tools such as the online Community Portal
Identify and coordinated delivery of local, regional and national training resources including trainers, train-the-trainers, online trainings, etc.
Explore the creation of an online training repository for use by community agencies and staff
Support the development a professional learning community with the St. John's homelessness system of care
SECTOR SERVICE QUALITY STANDARDS
Conduct review of existing resources and best practices in other jurisdictions related to service quality standards
Engage local stakeholders and subject matter experts on service quality standards
Support the development of service quality standards for the St. John's homelessness system of care, including issues such as client engagement, ethics, boundaries, and evaluation
SECTOR SUSTAINABILITY
Conduct an assessment of gaps and opportunities related to sustainability of the local homeless- serving sector
Explore and help to inform Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the local homelessness system of care to ensure that the sector is adequately able to respond to and ali the evolving needs and best practices of the homelessness sector response
Explore and implement opportunities for mentorship and professional development for staff working in the local homelessness system of care
QUALIFICATIONS:
Some combination of education and experience in social/human resources, government, healthcare, program development and delivery, training or education, business administration, change management, or other applicable area
Stakeholder engagement and management skills
Strong interpersonal skills, given requirements for interaction with broad range of stakeholders
Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities and deadlines
Strong organizational and planning skills
Strong presentation and facilitation skills
Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Experience with the non-profit or community sector considered an asset
Policy development considered an asset
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered
HOW TO APPLY:
This position provides competitive salary and benefits plan, including health, dental and RRSP contributions. Salary is commensurate with experience, starting at $55,000 per year.
This position is in place until March 31, 2026 with the possibility of extension. This position requires availability for in-person work in St. John's.
