Conductors work as members of two or three person train crews and perform duties associated with the movement of trains, rail cars, and locomotives in rail yards and on the road. They coordinate the assembly of trains and execute any ground work outside the locomotive cab while in the yard or en-route (ex: operating track switches, picking up rail cars, making emergency repairs, etc.).

The following conditions will only be applicable to newly hired employees upon successful completion of their training period in the location stated in this letter for a period of three (3) years:

  • You will be provided with accommodation for a period of up to three (3) months at a CN Bunkhouse or Hotel of CN's choosing.
  • Upon completion of your probationary period, You will be entitled to a $5,000.00 allowance to assist with expenses of relocating.
Employees who relocate under the provisions of this incentive will be required to maintain their permanent clearance(s) at their assigned location for a period of three (3) calendar years from the date they commence working at such location.

Employees who relocate under the provisions of this letter will be entitled to special lump sum allowances as follows:
  • After the completion of 365 days from the date they commenced working at the new location the employee will receive 7% of their earnings (working tours) paid as a lump sum. Earnings will be calculated from the date they commenced working up to and including the 365th day.
  • After the completion of 730 days from the date they commenced working at the new location, the employee will receive 10% of their earnings (working tours) paid as a lump sum. Earnings will be calculated from the 366th day, up to and including the 730th day.
  • After the completion of 1095 days from the date they commenced working at the new location the employee will receive 20% of their earnings (working tours) paid as a lump sum. Earnings will be calculated from the 731st day, up to and including the 1095th day.
**Approval to qualify subject to company's discretion. Incentive not applicable to current CN Rail Transportation Employees.
