Position Summary:



The Trailer Technician must be a safety conscious, hardworking individual and is an entry level position in the field of transport refrigeration. Work will be performed at times in a team environment. Good communication skills are required and the ability to follow directions is a necessity. The Trailer Technician is required to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of commercial transport trailers as well as basic repairs and servicing of trailer refrigeration systems. The Trailer Technician inspects, diagnoses, maintains and repairs components related to brakes, electrical, suspension and hydraulic systems as well as routine maintenance and safety. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



- Inspect and diagnose trailer systems and identify faults and malfunctions including suspension, undercarriage, frame, brakes, electrical and hydraulic.

- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

- Performs scheduled maintenance like oil changes, lubrication and tune ups.

- Repairs, maintains, and services both commercial transport trailers and transport refrigeration units.

- Repairs, maintains and services fuel injection systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, lubrication systems, engine control systems, major internal engine repairs or overhaul, installation and alignment of engines and equipment.

- Performs equipment inspections for proper performance and to detect faults and malfunctions.

- Diagnose any faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair that is required.

- Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.

- Perform incidental welding operations on equipment.

- Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.

- Operate refrigeration servicing equipment, e.g. A/C recycler, etc.

- Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics.

- Accurate completion of work orders and Fieldaware jobs.

- Test repaired equipment for proper performance.

- Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.

- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.

- Other mechanical repair work as required.

- Maintain good housekeeping practices.

Health and Safety Program Responsibilities:



- Become thoroughly familiar with the company Health and Safety program.

- Actively participate in Health and Safety program development and maintenance.

- Follow Health and Safety standards and standard operating procedures set out by Thermo King Western (Calgary) Inc. and Alberta OH&S legislative requirements, including harassment and violence.

- Refuse to perform dangerous work when unhealthy or unsafe conditions exist (as defined by Alberta OH&S legislation), and refusing to perform work they are not competent to perform.

- Report all identified or potential hazards to their supervisors.

- Immediately report to their supervisors all accidents, incidents, injuries, near misses and related illnesses.

- Participating in all safety training offered by the employer at or away from the work place.

- Use all personal protective equipment (PPE) as per their training.

- Check tools and equipment, including PPE, for hazards or defects before using them and replacing/repairing if necessary.

- Know the location, type and operation of any emergency equipment.

- Possess a valid driver's license.

- Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics.

- Experience with routine maintenance operations.

- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.

- The ability to complete Commercial Vehicle Inspections within a licensed facility.

- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

Physical Requirements:



- Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, climb, reach, Ability to lift, Ability to grasp hand tools, Repetitive motion: keyboarding, Occasionally works outdoors. Is exposed to noise and heights.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $23.00-$39.00 per hour
