Hiring a contract trail builder for 2.5 months this summer in Dawson City. Position will work 6 days a week 10-12 hours days. Job Summary: The Trail Builder is responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining trails in various natural settings. The Trail Builder works closely with other team members to plan, develop, and implement trail systems that are safe, sustainable, and provide enjoyable outdoor experiences for hikers, bikers, and other trail users. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and construct trails following established standards, guidelines, and environmental best practices.
  • Clear vegetation, remove obstacles, and create sustainable drainage systems along trail routes.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery to build trails, construct bridges, and install trail signs.
  • Collaborate with other team members, such as park managers, environmentalists, and volunteers, to plan and prioritize trail projects.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of existing trails, including repairing erosion damage, fixing trail tread, and replacing trail markers.
  • Assist in developing and implementing erosion control measures to protect trails and surrounding natural resources.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to construction and workplace safety regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of trail construction activities, including materials used, hours worked, and progress reports.
  • Provide guidance and training to volunteers and seasonal staff involved in trail building and maintenance activities.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies related to trail construction and maintenance.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in construction, forestry, or related fields is a plus.
  • Proven experience in trail construction, including knowledge of trail design principles, erosion control techniques, and trail building tools and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and follow trail construction plans, maps, and specifications.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions and rugged terrain.
  • Proficiency in operating hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery used in trail building, such as chainsaws, brush cutters, and excavators.
  • Understanding of environmental and conservation principles related to trail construction and maintenance.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills for record keeping and reporting.
  • Valid driver\'s license and reliable transportation to travel to job sites.
