Traffic Accommodation Supervisor (TAS)



Job Summary



The TAS is responsible for setting up signage for construction zones, ensuring the safety of crews and the public, and conducting hazard assessments. Key responsibilities include implementing safety protocols, posting signage in advance, maintaining daily logs, and coordinating with other contractors. The role requires physical fitness, the ability to work long hours in various conditions, and knowledge of provincial TAS rules. The TAS is not only responsible for setting up signage but also for providing guidance and instructions to the other Traffic Control Personnel working on site.

Responsibilities

include:

Safety Implementation:

Identifying hazards, following company policies, refusing unsafe work, posting signage for crew safety, filling out safety cards, protecting the public, and conducting site hazard assessments before crews arrive.

TAS Practices:

Posting signage in advance for public awareness, daily sign posting, updating traffic accommodation strategies, opening roads after project completion, reporting to engineers and the office, maintaining sign logs, and coordinating with contractors.

People Development:

The TAS acts as a supervisor or coordinator for the traffic control team. They are in charge of ensuring that everyone on the team understands their roles, follows safety protocols, and carries out their duties effectively.

Required skills and abilities

include:

Demonstrated skills in reading, interpreting, and implementing Traffic Accommodation Plans and Strategies. Physical fitness and hard work. Ability to work under pressure and long hours in various weather conditions. Awareness of workplace safety and teamwork. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and set priorities. Effective communication and coordination skills. Previous physical labor experience. First Aid & CPR certification. Class 5 driver's license with a clean record. Compliance with fit-for-duty requirements. Relevant provincial tickets and knowledge of TAS rules.

Additional Information

includes:

Extended hours, travel, lifting, standing, and working in various weather conditions. Fatigue, heat/cold stress, vehicle traffic, pinch points, lifting, working alone, bridges/guardrails/power lines, sight and stopping distance, public interaction, and wildlife. Shared motel accommodation. Valid driver's license and experience operating oversized dual-wheel pickup trucks with signage equipment are required.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 5 months

Pay: $24.00 per hour
