Job Description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Underground Tractor Backhoe Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a tractor backhoe on shallow utility projects. This includes trenching, backfilling, compacting, and handling materials in tight work zones. The operator will excavate for shallow gas and power lines and should have experience with 4-party URD installations, including Telus P&B, vaults, pedestals, and pads, while ensuring proper depth, slope, and bedding as per engineered plans and municipal standards.

How You'll Add Value



Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment Operate the front bucket and back boom to perform tasks such as piling aggregates, transporting materials, excavating for utilities and new installations, and tamping around installed features Interpret blueprints to accurately install duct and underground structures Mark trench lines to guide excavation activities Blow rope and tag lines to facilitate cable pulling operations Operate air compressors to support trenching and installation tasks Pull primary and secondary cables (4/0 PT) to designated areas Install duct in trenches and across road crossings Set underground structures using proper rigging techniques Load and unload materials and equipment from trucks Transport aggregates such as sand and dirt across the job site Excavate trenches for streetlight installations Perform daily maintenance and greasing of assigned equipment Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs

What You Bring



1+ years of experience as a tractor backhoe operator Experience in the heavy civil construction industry is considered an asset Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a Driver's Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
