Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Luffing Jib Tower Crane Operator to support high-density, multi-storey construction projects. This role requires strong technical ability, situational awareness, and clear communication with site supervision and rigging crews. Experience operating luffing jib cranes in tight urban environments is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate understands lift planning, load control, and safe crane operation while working as part of a coordinated site team.
Key ResponsibilitiesCrane Operation
Operate a luffing jib tower crane safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer specifications and site lift plans
Perform precise lifts in confined or congested jobsite environments
Adjust jib angle and radius accurately to manage load positioning and site constraints
Respond appropriately to changing site conditions such as wind, visibility, and surrounding work activities
Safety & Compliance
Follow all WorkSafeBC regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety plans
Conduct daily pre-operational inspections and complete required crane logs and checklists
Identify and report mechanical issues, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately
Maintain clear exclusion zones and ensure safe lifting practices at all times
Communication & Coordination
Communicate clearly with riggers, signal persons, foremen, and site supervision
Participate in lift planning discussions and toolbox meetings as required
Maintain professional radio communication and follow standard hand and radio signals
Site Support
Coordinate crane usage with other trades and site activities to minimize conflicts and downtime
Support efficient sequencing of lifts to maintain production flow
Assist with crane climbing, jumping, or demobilization activities when required, in coordination with qualified personnel
Qualifications & Requirements Required
Valid Tower Crane Operator Certification
Demonstrated experience operating luffing jib tower cranes on active construction sites
Strong understanding of load charts, radius management, and lift limitations
Proven track record of safe crane operation
Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced construction environments
Preferred
Experience on multi-storey residential or commercial wood-frame or concrete projects
Red Seal certification
Tower Crane certification level A
Familiarity with working in urban or tight-access sites
Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude
Knowledge of rigging practices and lift planning
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship
Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour
