Position Summary:
Perform functions to build or repair tools, dies and special guiding and holding devices used in machines to manufacture a variety of products. Responsibilities include set up and operate conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind or otherwise shape parts to specified dimensions and finishes.
Essential Functions:
Servicing the progressive stamping dies, grinding and assembly of the die components.
Study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies or assemblies.
Troubleshooting the dies during production runs, keep the spare components of the die.
Set up and operate all kind of tool room machinery as needed to preform the task.
Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules and hand tools if required.
File, grind, smooth, polish, shim and adjust different parts od the die to properly fit them together, using scrapes, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths or power grinders.
Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators.
Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
Maintains good housekeeping and keeps work area and surroundings organized and free of oil, spills and debris.
Ensures that all safety equipment, devices and guards are used properly and in position at all times during equipment operation.
Complies with all work instructions, quality and safety policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Post secondary or community college education in Tool designing or tool programming with at least 4 years tool and die making Apprenticeship training.
Broad knowledge of equipment operation, tools, precision measuring instruments, mechanical devices, milling machines, lathes and grinders as well as hand tools.
SPC training
Ability to read blueprints and designer's specifications
At least 5 years tool and die making experience in
automotive Stamped parts manufacturing preferably from OEM background.
