The Tissue Specialist II is responsible for the recovery, processing, preservation and distribution of human tissue for transplant. The position also includes participation in the processing, preservation and distribution of living donor human tissue. Health Canada and the American Association of Tissue Bank Standards regulate all processes and practices. In this role, the Tissue Specialist II will also provide on-call coverage per the rotation. He/she will be participating in the development of the Southern Alberta Tissue Program to serve the needs of tissue transplantation locally, regionally and nationally. He/she also will participate in quality control and quality assurance processes, public/professional activities and program development. The position is under the leadership of the Unit Manager and Manager of the Southern Alberta Organ and Tissue Donation Program. Travel may be required to other facilities within Southern Alberta to support tissue recovery.
Description:

You will screen the donor by reviewing the obtained consent for donation and donor history to determine donor acceptability and perform physical assessment and surgical procedures as outlined in policy and procedures. You will participate in quality control and quality assurance processes, tissue transportation, public/professional awareness activities, and program development.

Required Qualifications:
Graduate of health sciences diploma or degree program, or related field.

Demonstrated comfort in working within an operating room/ clean room setting using proper sterile technique and appropriate personal protective equipment.
