Job Summary
The
Tier 2 Computer Field Technician
provides advanced onsite technical support for computer systems, networking equipment, and peripherals. This role includes troubleshooting, repair, installation, and configuration tasks across client locations. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, skilled in diagnostics, customer service-oriented, and experienced in working independently in the field.
This role also requires cultural sensitivity, with a deep respect for Indigenous knowledge, values, and community contexts.
Key Responsibilities
Provide remote and onsite support for desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues.
Install and configure operating systems, applications, and drivers.
Serve as first-line support; escalate issues as needed to ensure timely resolution.
Maintain detailed documentation of issues and resolutions.
Assist with the preparation and implementation of work orders related to client requirements.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot Fortinet, MikroTik, and other field-deployed network equipment.
Provide Tier 2 systems, support (tickets) and troubleshooting.
Maintain detailed documentation of issues and resolutions
Responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting.
Travel to First Nations communities and client sites for scheduled or urgent support.
Work externally with vendors, telecom providers and other technology teams to bring issues to resolution and take actions to prevent future occurrences.
Support deployment and setup of new IT systems and infrastructure.
Write instructional and technical support documents for support staff as well as end-users/customers.
Provide user training and technical guidance during site visits.
Follow all safety, security, and data privacy protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Diploma or certification in IT, Networking, or a related field.
Certifications (preferred):
CompTIA A+, Network+, Fortinet NSE 1-3, Microsoft MTA (or equivalent).
Experience:
2-3 years in IT support, with at least 1 year in a field technician role.
Understanding of Northern and Indigenous communities would be advantageous.
Familiarity with operating systems like Linux, and Windows to troubleshoot network issues
Knowledge of ITIL.

Work Conditions
Extensive provincial travel is required by many modes of travel

Lifting and transporting heavy objects (50lbs), such as network equipment.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Windows OS, Microsoft 365, and Active Directory.
Understanding of LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, VPNs.
Experience with Ubiquiti, Starlink, and Fortinet is a strong asset.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong documentation and time management skills.
Comfortable working independently and managing travel logistics.
