Job Description

Our client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure, has an immediate need for a Thermal Operator to collaborate with business stakeholders and execution teams. This is a contract position for one (1) year located in Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan.

Schedule: 7 days on/ 7 days off- 12 hr. days.

Description

The Thermal Contract Operator will be responsible to operate the plant(s) in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner, trouble shoot problems, lead facility optimization efforts, provide operating cost management and forecasting, and work with the production operations, engineering and the maintenance staff.

Accountabilities:

  • Providing leadership, mentoring and supervision of plant personnel
  • Enhancing plant employee skill, leadership and career development
  • Maximizing plant throughput and operating cost efficiency
  • Leading the plant team in developing a proactive and progressive culture ensuring all plant operating activities are carried out in a planned, efficient, safe, and environmentally responsible manner in compliance with all regulatory health, safety and environmental codes, practices, policies laws and regulations
  • Preparing plant operating budgets, reforecasts, providing monthly reconciliation of actual costs to forecasts with a view to implement appropriate optimization strategies to address the variances and assisting with capital budget planning
  • Developing, tracking and reporting plant key performance indicators to drive for increases in productivity and reduced throughput costs
  • Participating and providing operational input into the plant efficiency initiatives
  • Fostering an environment around continuous improvement while improving financial discipline
  • Developing effective relationships with other work groups and with local landowners, land users and regulators.
  • Managing vendor performance by establishing key performance indicators and leading continuous improvement initiatives for treating and corrosion chemicals
Requirements:
  • 2-4 years of experience in a plant or field operating environment
  • Technology Diploma, trade certificate or equivalent
  • 4th or 3rd Class Steam Ticket- Depending on level.
  • Experience operating a plant(s) in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner, trouble shoot problems, lead facility optimization efforts.
  • Experience preparing plant operating budgets, reforecasts, providing monthly reconciliation of actual costs to forecasts with a view to implement appropriate optimization strategies to address the variances and assisting with capital budget planning
  • Experience developing, tracking and reporting plant key performance indicators to drive for increases in productivity and reduced throughput costs.
  • Experience participating and providing operational input into the plant efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with government regulations, corporate policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate skills in Word, Excel, E-mail and SAP.
  • Strong trouble-shooting and decision-making abilities, as well as proven business sense.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize the work of a multi-disciplined operational team.
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting skills.
