The Allied Health department at South Health Campus provides services to inpatient units and outpatient service areas. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the Clinical Practice Leader, this Therapy Assistant position is primarily responsible for providing direct and non-direct patient care. The current caseload for this position is supporting the Hand Clinic and acute care medical, neurology, and surgical units. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an inter-professional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists. In the Hand Clinic, the Therapy Assistant is responsible for carrying out individual treatment plans including splinting and sewing, as assigned by a therapist, as well as performing various department support functions. The position requires the ability to prioritize and organize daily work schedules to manage client caseload and service delivery responsibilities. Strong communication, self-management, and organizational skills are required. This position will provide weekend coverage on a rotational basis. There is potential for coverage in other areas of the hospital including other outpatient areas. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment.Description:As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered. Additional Required Qualifications:Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required. Experience, working as a Therapy Assistant, in an adult acute care hospital. Basic computer skills. Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Therapy Assistant. Experience working in an outpatient Hand Clinic. Experience providing hand therapy and creating hand splints. Experience working in inpatient Orthopedic and General Medicine areas. Experience providing interventions assigned by multiple Allied Health disciplines (PT, OT, SLP).
