About the OpportunityThe Coordinator, The Landing supports the operations of the Landing, a support and advocacy centre for 2SLGBTQ+ students. The Landing operates in close collaboration with other Students\' Union and University units to provide support and programming for students of all genders and sexualities in campus life. As part of this mandate, the Landing supports LGBTQ2S+ communities and individuals as well as their supporters, friends, family and loved ones.The Coordinator works closely in overseeing the organization and operations of the Landing. The position supports our volunteer program including recruitment, interviews, appreciation, training, professional development, and evaluation. The Coordinator will also be responsible for resource management (including Discord), statistics, and assessment. The Coordinator will be required to provide supportive listening to visitors clients as necessary and to assist in evaluating areas of risk and executing crisis management plans.This is a temporary six-month term position with a potential for extension. The start date will be September/October. This position works part time about 15-20 hours per week from September to April.About the University of Alberta Students\xe2\x80\x99 UnionThe University of Alberta Students\xe2\x80\x99 Union (U.A.S.U.) is the official student-run organization for undergraduates at the University of Alberta. We aim to improve your experience as a student, through the services, events and spaces that we provide. We also provide advocacy on your behalf within the university community, and to all levels of government.Core Duties

  • Support volunteer management for the Landing, including volunteer recruitment, training, supervising, scheduling, and recognition
  • Support our volunteer-led programming with planning, outreach, evaluation, and program facilitation
  • Track and compile program attendance and other metrics;
  • Implement and manage the Landing\xe2\x80\x99s drop-in hours (Discord and in person), with support from the Program Lead, The Landing
  • Facilitate volunteer and leadership team meetings
  • Act as a primary support for The Landing volunteers, including coaching volunteers, assessing risk issues, finding additional resources, and completing necessary documentation
  • Recruits for, supports and facilitates The Landing\xe2\x80\x99s Student Advisory Committee
  • Identify and implement outreach and programming efforts for The Landing
  • Maintain a calendar of The Landing\xe2\x80\x99s and the campus community\xe2\x80\x99s events that are relevant to gender and sexual diversity
  • Maintain, update, and develop The Landing\'s resource library
  • Update The Landing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram), maintaining a relevant presence and information hub for queer students at the U of A
  • Create and distribute a monthly community newsletter about updates from The Landing and in the 2SLGBTQ+ community
  • Update and organize the filing system, volunteer document system, and computer files in addition to general administrative duties
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be an undergraduate students at the University of Alberta, enrolled in at least one course in each of the fall and winter sessions during the term of employment;
  • General academic and non-academic understanding of the University of Alberta;
  • Eligible to work in Canada (including students who are in Canada on a study permit);
  • The ability to work on-site at our offices at the University of Alberta\xe2\x80\x99s North Campus, in Edmonton, Alberta;
  • Availability to work varying hours, including possible evenings and weekends during the school year.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of and/or lived experience as a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community
  • Commitment to anti-oppressive practice, harm reduction, and social justice.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively employ interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stressful or complex situations
  • Previous experience volunteering or working with a crisis intervention organization
  • Ability to deal effectively with Students\xe2\x80\x99 Union and University staff, students, and the general public in a professional manner
  • Proficiency with Macintosh computers and with Google Drive software applications
  • Previous experience in volunteer management and training
  • Previous experience in public speaking, facilitation, and training
  • Completion of Community Helpers, QPR, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, RA training, or other mental health or crisis training.
