Introduction

Hey, I'm Heather. I live in Parkdale, Toronto, and I've been an entrepreneur for 15 years, since I was 23. In 2023, I purchased half of the F45 Training franchise in my neighbourhood and embarked on an ambitious turnaround project - in 18 months we 5x-ed our membership and more than tripled revenues. But more importantly, we've built on what was already an amazing community, and I love every day that I spend helping our neighbours achieve their health and fitness goals.

Thanks to this experience, I've discovered that my passion is small business, and in particular I like to buy and then build them. We recently found out that we're the #2 F45 in Canada, which has given us a real focus: to be so good at helping our neighbours achieve their goals that we are #1 not just in Canada but in the world.

But here's the thing about it - my co-owner Alessandro and I can't do it alone. That's where you come in.

About the Opportunity

We're looking to build a talent engine in Parkdale, because we believe the best talent isn't hired, it's grown. That's why this role has been designed with a very clear career path in mind.

In this Junior Coach position for F45 Parkdale, you'll learn the ins and outs of the boutique fitness business, as part of a top fitness brand and from co-owners doing it better than almost anybody else. First, we'll train you to coach what we call "5-Star Sessions", and turn you into the sort of coach that makes members smile with excitement when they walk into class and see that you're on the floor that day. You'll start out filling gaps in the schedule and pitching in as needed but as we add more classes, you'll develop a full weekly schedule (around 20-25 classes per week).

Outside of coaching classes, you'll work closely with Alessandro and I to help us create new programs to support our members or expand our reach. For example, we'd like to refine our "on ramp" for new members, to ensure they're well-supported during their first few classes, and you'll help us execute it. And we'd like to create a small-group program for folks ages 60+, you'll help us design it and coach the classes with Alessandro while we work out the kinks, while I focus on finding amazing folks to enroll. And so on.

We'd also like you to work with our in-house content creator to create educational, informative or funny content for social media, showcasing the studio, teaching members and future members how to do technical moves, or just being a goof. Our content creator will take the lead on strategy & planning, but your ideas are welcome, and you get to be the star!

And finally, there's a bit of "whatever needs to be done" in this role. On the road to #1 F45 in the world, lots of things are going to come up, and we need an extra person on our team to help us navigate the challenges and opportunities. One day this might be folding towels, one day it might be walking around to Parkdale businesses and inviting them to come for a free class, one day it might be a goal review session with a member or assembling our new desk. We can't predict, but all that to say that this role would be best suited to someone who is open to doing what it takes to win. Alessandro and I are "roll up your sleeves" owners and managers, so to fit in on our team, that needs to describe you, too.

This is not a remote position, and the right candidate for this role will like that, because you'll learn more - you'll sit right beside me or Alessandro most days, shadowing us, documenting SOPs (standard operating procedures) when they don't exist yet, and taking over tasks as you feel comfortable with them, to free up our time to move on to more strategic priorities - like buying or building the next business.

With strong performance, this role will transition from a six-month contract to a permanent role. We're looking for someone who wants to work towards a role like Head Coach or Studio Manager with us down the road, at this F45 or another fitness studio in our (soon to be growing) portfolio, or perhaps another role that's a fit for you that appears as the business grows. There's a lot of opportunity here!

About You

You're highly extraverted, friends call you "bubbly" or "enthusiastic" and you're comfortable in front of a camera, talking on the phone or at the front of a room full of people. You love people! You love meeting new ones, learning about them, and finding out what makes them tick - or change. You have high EQ. You were a top student, involved in lots of extra-curriculars, including leadership positions, and fitness plays a big role in your life. You likely played sports growing up. You're available full-time with some evening and weekend availability (we specifically have a gap on Monday and Tuesday evenings and would require rotating Friday evenings as well) You're ready to prove what you can do and itching for a challenge that actually rewards performance. You're eager to learn about entrepreneurship and small business.

Required Certification

In terms of a certification, you have one of:

A kinesiology degree or a personal training certification (or in progress and willing to complete promptly), OR high-level athletic experience (and willing to get certified as a Personal Trainer) OR you have none of those but can convince us that this is the job for you (and you're willing to do the work to get certified as a Personal Trainer promptly if hired.) This would only work if you were really, really passionate about fitness and it has been a big part of your life for years. A current First Aid & CPR-C certification would also be required if hired.

Don't Apply If

You have stage fright. You have a fixed mindset. You fear being held accountable to results. You're allergic to feedback. You want to be comfortable, not challenged. You avoid confrontation and direct communication. You're okay with having an average life.
