Our teams provide the services and technology our business partners need to help clients achieve lifetime financial security. We partner closely with groups and individuals throughout Sun Life Financial to provide products and services that deliver business value. As a member of the AOSQE team, the Test Developer will implement automation solutions and perform quality engineering activities throughout the software development life cycle. This role is focused on client facing Web and Desktop (front end and backend services) application delivery.

What you will do?
  • Lead the design and development of automated scripts and frameworks to be used across the software development life cycle (including shift-left and shift-right testing)
  • Collaborate with the QE and Development teams to design and implement effective automation testing strategies
  • Create and maintain repeatable and re-usable automation scripts for various types of tests, such as functional, smoke, regression, accessibility and technical tests
  • Create and maintain Automation related training documentation
  • Regularly execute automated scripts, analyze results, log, and track detailed product defects
  • Integrate and maintain automated scripts into CI/CD pipeline
  • Champion and advocate automation and quality within the QE organization
  • Contribute to Quality Engineering practices and processes
  • Track QE progress and provide analysis & metrics on the QE Development effort
  • Liaise with other teams in reusing/leveraging regression test cases/scripts and provide any necessary support and coaching for effective automation techniques
  • Identify opportunities to continuously increase automation coverage
  • Provide timely and effective communication to management, relating to quality, resource, and project issues & concerns
  • Ensure that code reviews are happening and participate in defining gating criteria
  • Research new tools and technologies for solving complex problems
  • Contribute to the development of full stack automation solution and help troubleshoot tool issues
  • Perform automated test scripts code reviews
What you need to succeed:
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in QE / QA domain and in Software Engineering (designing, developing, maintaining, deploying code)
  • Related University Degree or College Diploma
  • Strong knowledge and experience in web/desktop and mobile application design, development, and testing
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence)
  • Experience with in-sprint and cross-sprint testing
  • Proven experience in team collaboration to create innovative solutions efficiently
  • Passionate about technology and excited about the impact of emerging / disruptive technologies
  • Knowledge in financial services and insurance industry
  • CSTE certification (or equivalent) is an asset
Preferred skills:
  • Advanced test automation skills across the full application stack, including unit test automation, web services / middleware automation and UI automation
  • Highly skilled and solid experience with DevOps, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, and build/deploy/version control tools
  • Solid experience in one or more test automation and DevOps tools and framework (e.g., Tosca, Cucumber, Selenium, Appium, Ready API, Rest Assured, Jenkins, Sonarqube, Junit, JMeter, TestNG)
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Cloud, API, TDD, ATDD, BDD
  • Solid knowledge and experience in Data structure, algorithms and distributed systems
  • Experience in qTest, UFT Mobile (or similar)
  • Strong communication skills with ability to communicate complex technical concepts and align organization on decisions
  • Sound problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly process complex information and present it clearly and simply
