in Kingston, where you will be responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the overall Transport Operations. This role is to effectively manage the development and directions of the operational team, to drive operational achievement through Key Performance Indicators and promote high quality customer satisfaction while building relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee and ensure the Transportation operations department is functioning to maximum efficiency and seek to maximize profitability on each load by ensuring timely and accurate processing of shipments.
Oversee the supervision of all operations personnel including but not limited to dispatchers, dock, customer service, drivers, yard and garage personnel and all Transport Support Staff.
Review daily the production by shift and department, and to ensure maximum utilization of all line haul and P&D equipment.
Budget preparation and monitoring of the department P&L to manage within the guidelines of the operating budget.
Analyzes and report on the daily, monthly and annually department's key performance indicators and industry trends.
Handle customer escalation situations that require increased attention outside of normal day-to-day activities.
Build strong third party vendor relationships (Interline) in order to maximize efficiencies to achieve target profitability.
Work together with the Driver Safety and Compliance Supervisor to ensure that a good standing is kept with the CVOR
Work closely with the Garage/maintenance department to ensure all vehicles are properly maintained and adhere to the company and government compliance regulations.
Responsible for recruitment and performance management of all operational staff and to ensure adequate staffing levels throughout each department.
Responsible for the security of the building and building maintenance issues.
Requirements and Qualifications
5-7 years Management experience in Transport industry - overseeing of entire operation/department, LTL environment would be an asset
Post-Secondary Education with focus on Transport, Logistics, and Warehouse Management is an asset.
Outstanding analytical skills, organizational and planning skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Applicant must possess excellent mathematical skills for analyzing data, P&L Statements, projecting revenues, reviewing and preparing budgets and forecasting the business division needs and requirements for capital, equipment and manpower.
Possess high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
Possess a proven ability to lead employees.
Detail problem solving skills and sound decision making skills.
Able to build team work and positive environment and possess the ability to develop and coach.
Must be flexible with hours of work to meet the demands of varying shifts
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
