NVIT is BC\'s Indigenous Public Post-Secondary Institute. Instructors will be teaching courses virtually. This is in conjunction with the Council of Yukon First Nations in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.The Indigenous Human Service Diploma prepares learners with a career in non-profit agencies, Indigenous communities, and government. Graduates will be able to provide support and assistance to individuals, families and communities coping with economic disadvantage, mental health issues, developmental, gender and diversity issues, as well as challenges such as addictions, family change and involvement with the justice system. Learners who wish to continue their education have the opportunity to ladder into the Social Work Degree Program at NVIT.Year One: September 17, 2024 - August 31, 2025

  • IHMS 130 -Introduction to Professional Human Service Practice
  • IHMS 140 - Introduction to Working with Substance Use
  • IHMS 150 - Introduction to the Family in Human Service Practice
  • IHMS 160 - Fieldwork Education Practicum
Applicants should indicate which courses they are qualified for and interested in teaching.Program details can be found at:Certificate -Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Master\'s Degree in related field;
  • Post-secondary teaching experience (with Aboriginal adult learners preferred);
  • Knowledge of classroom teaching and learning practices;
  • Excellent teaching and human relations skills - faculty members are expected to contribute positively to the life of the school and community; and
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing.
