Temporary Full Time Strategic Initiatives Coordinator \xe2\x80\x93 Community Support Programs (12-month contract)

Reporting to the Manager of Public and Strategic Affairs, the Strategic Initiatives Coordinator (Community Support Programs) will implement and coordinate access to programs and services to address local complex social issues such as crime and homelessness.

Key Duties

  • Develop and implement annual community safety and homelessness report to Senior Management and Council.
  • Implement cross-sectoral projects (i.e., partnerships between governments, agencies, service providers, community organizations) to address local complex social challenges.
  • Develop and implement Town-focused community safety strategies and actions that align with the provincially legislated Community Safety and Well-Being Plan developed by the Region of Durham in 2021.
  • Collaborate with agencies and committees serving the unsheltered population to facilitate and leverage system-wide strategic programs and resources.
  • Work with neighbourhood groups to respond to area specific challenges and opportunities, share information, foster dialogue, and develop relationships.
  • Provide advice, and problem-solving and conflict resolution support to Council and Town staff.
  • Support council initiatives and programs.
  • Write and manage policies and procedures, service/partner agreements, etc.
  • Produce information packages, campaigns and other resources.
  • Hold community forums and training sessions.

Qualifications/Skills

  • University degree specializing in Community Health, Social Services, Non-profit Management, Community Safety, Public Administration, or Business.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.
  • Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized populations.
  • Experience coordinating programs and working with groups in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and common meeting and collaboration tools.
  • Knowledge of crime prevention strategies and measures to reduce the risk of crime occurring.
  • Understanding of mental illness, addictions, harm-reduction, the stigma and intersectional discrimination that surround them.
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with partners from varying sectors including academic, government and community agencies.
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong research and data collection/analysis skills.

What is Offered to Staff

  • Rate of Pay: $45.06 - $50.06 per hour
  • Hours of Work: This 12-month contract is a full-time non-union position that works 35 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • Hybrid Work Program: The Town offers a Hybrid Work Program. A flexible work arrangement, including the option to work from home some or a majority of the time, is currently a possibility with this position, and can be discussed during the interview process.
