Lawson Health Research Institute (Lawson) is the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care London. As one of Canada’s top ten research institutes, we are committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world. ICES KDT is seeking a motivated Biostatistical Research Analyst to work collaboratively with researchers and staff, applying research methodology in the context of health services administrative data. The research analysts work will draw from all of Ontario’s 18 billion+ health related records – nearly a trillion data points. Moreover, you can take pride in your work and participate driving real-world change. ICES KDT operates out of ICES Western, a satellite site of ICES in Toronto which officially launched in 2012. ICES Western is located within the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. The Epidemiologist is an employee of LHSC -Lawson Health Research Institute. Examples of recent projects include, evaluating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people experiencing homelessness; examining the relationship between childhood food insecurity and the risk of developing diabetes and; investigating persistent post-operative opioid use following hip surgery. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities of the position include, but may not be limited to:
  • Participating in the development of study designs and analytic plans;
  • Developing SAS programs to extract, merge and manipulate data from existing ICES databases according to dataset creation plans to create study cohorts following analytic guidelines and standards;
  • Conducting exploratory and statistical analyses, preparing and reviewing analytic outputs for presentation to investigative team and external stakeholders;
  • Engaging actively with the project team to provide advice on research feasibility, design, methodology, availability of ICES data and interpretation of findings;
  • Contributing to writing reports, abstracts, peer-reviewed publications and other relevant deliverables, in collaboration with principal investigators;
  • Coordinating projects and facilitating communication between investigators, trainees and research staff;
  • Applying general project management principles including monitoring project timelines, scope, budget and deliverables;
  • Contributing to a body of knowledge around variable definitions, analytical approaches or limitations in our data and resolving data issues as they arise;
  • Continuing to maintain and expand professional skills;
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and necessary for the efficient functioning of the team.
Rate of Pay: To commensurate with experience Hours per Week: 37.5 hours per week Duration: One-year contract, with potential for renewal

Qualifications



  • PhD. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or related field, with a thorough understanding of biostatistical analytic techniques
  • At least three years of experience in a health facility or health research environment, with similar involvement in identifying or working with administrative data sources, designing research studies, procuring data, preparing reports, and editing with scientific rigour
  • Strong desire to function in an environment that requires constant adaptation to changing organizational needs and re-prioritizing workload to accommodate
  • Extreme comfort when expected to produce high levels of output
  • Functions best in an environment that requires independence and where expectations are that staff understand risk management
  • Knowledge of health services research concepts as well as epidemiologic study design and analysis with administrative data
  • Experience with multiple types of statistical analysis, including binomial, and multinomial logistic regression, Poisson regression, negative binomial regression, categorical data analysis, survival analysis, and predictive modelling
  • Ability to apply, learn and understand new and existing statistical methods to studies as appropriate
  • Demonstrated skill at merging data from multiple sources and working with large, complex datasets
  • Strong quantitative experience using SAS statistical software including competence in SQL, macro writing and statistical analysis of data
  • Attention to detail particularly when following study protocols, developing data measures and resolving data anomalies
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Immunization Requirements:
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
