1.0 FTE TEMPORARY FULL-TIME MENTAL HEALTH WORKER
Work Location
: Bluewater District School Board Education Centre (BWDSB) in Chesley with travel throughout Grey and Bruce counties.
This position will be assigned to the Flesherton and Dundalk area. Support will also be provided to all schools throughout BWDSB on an as needed basis. Assigned schools are subject to change based on staff and student needs.
Dates:
Commencing as soon as possible to March 6, 2026 with the possibility of extension. If the incumbent returns or circumstances change the contract dates would be adjusted.

Position Summary:
The mental health worker will provide therapeutic supports for students Kindergarten to Grade 12 experiencing social, emotional and behaviour problems in the context of the family, the school, and the community.
In addition, the mental health worker will provide tier one supports for staff and students.
The mental health worker will support the vision, mission, and priorities of BWDSB, while contributing to a positive, supportive, and student-focused team environment.
Bluewater District School Board's Mental Health Workers are members of the Professional Student Services Personnel, OSSTF District 7 bargaining unit. Professional Student Services Personnel work 10 months per year following the school year calendar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Will provide non-academic therapeutic services to students experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral problems in the context of the family, the school, and the community
Assessment and formulation of treatment needs for students who are identified as requiring mental health service
Collaborate with teachers and school administrators to identify mental health concerns and identify strategies to support student needs in the classroom and school environment
Advocate on behalf of students who are accessing mental health services to support their academic success and well-being while at school
Practice within a strengths-based, anti-oppressive framework, inclusive of cross-cultural considerations that embraces the diversity of students
Participate in collaborative planning meetings with BWDSB staff and community partners to facilitate appropriate referrals that will meet student identified needs
Deliver mental health interventions to individual and groups of students using a wide range of evidenced-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution Focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and motivational Interviewing
Collaborative safety planning for high-risk students, which includes supporting schools to implement appropriate responses to students at risk of self-harm and/or suicide, as well as working collaboratively with community crisis services
Engage in prevention work and tier one education as it relates to various system initiatives
Develop working relationships with community agencies to co-ordinate the delivery of effective programs and connect parents and students with resources
Provide clear, concise, and accurate documentation, protecting privacy and confidentiality, as per the standards and regulations established by the staff members regulatory body, and adhering to the associated policies and procedures of BWDSB
Remain current on relevant research, best practices, legislation, and professional literature
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience:
Master of Social Work, Psychology or Psychotherapy and a member of the applicable regulated college (or the ability to register) such as Ontario College of Social Workers or Social Service Workers, College of Psychologists of Ontario or a Member of the College of Regulated Psychotherapists of Ontario (or the ability to be registered)
Membership with applicable regulatory body (or the ability to register) is required.
Experience, demonstrated skills, and education in the mental health field required.
Assets:
Excellent Interpersonal skills that will help to build strong relationships with students, educators, and community service partners
Experience and expertise delivering and creating psychoeducation and programming to a wide range of audiences, such as students, staff, and other stakeholders
Experience in safety planning, crisis intervention and trauma response
Effectively navigate policies/procedures and advocate for change where needed
Assess the bio/psycho/social needs of students and to assist in the development of programs and strategies to meet these needs
Create and implement collaborative and holistic treatment plans
Complete risk assessments
Work effectively on a multidisciplinary team
Provide comprehensive consultation
Interpret and collect data to inform implementation and evaluation of programs and services
Comprehensive understanding of resources and materials provided by School Mental Health Ontario (SMH-ON)
Expertise in system navigation and coordination of services
Strong organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
