JOB DESCRIPTION





The Scientific Writer will play an integral role in advancing the success and sustainability of the organization's academic plan inclusive of the research enterprise. The incumbent is responsible for the production of high quality written scientific documents for research grant applications, research protocols, white papers, peer-reviewed abstract and publications. The incumbent builds capacity for the development of scientific writing skills amongst individuals, teams and the organization that is of the highest quality and relevance to patients, staff and stakeholders and is congruent with the approved organizational priorities.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:




Provides scientific writing consultation and services to Ontario Shores researchers and works in collaboration with members of the Research and Academics department; Writes, reviews and edits high quality documents in collaboration with researchers; Prepares internal and external communications, including conference poster and abstract preparation Writes abstracts and presentations for peer-reviewed research dissemination events; Writes manuscript content with appropriate formats for submission to peer-reviewed academic journals; Plays a key role in the writing and submitting of grant applications; Quickly acquires knowledge on unfamiliar topics/therapeutic areas as assigned; Plans, coordinates the development, edits, and reviews all manuscripts as assigned; Works closely with internal and external stakeholders, including various partners (e.g., academic institutions, foundations, community-based organizations, private enterprise), to develop appropriate, high-quality content for all assignments; Providing assistance to the managing editor for the Journal of Recovery in Mental Health in processing submissions for review;

Requirements:




Education and/or experience equivalent to a Master's degree in a related scientific discipline (Ph. D. is an asset) At least five years experience in writing research papers and scientific publications; Demonstrated sophisticated understanding of and experience with the research environment within a mental health care organization; Demonstrated extensive experience with writing and preparing white papers and peer-reviewed academic health sciences publications; Knowledge of research reporting guidelines and journal styles for the publication of various research designs; Requires excellent written and verbal English language skills; Previous clinical, academic and/or research experience in a mental health setting is desirable; Capacity to develop effective relationships across professions and sectors; Initiative, accountability, creativity and outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills; Time management skills including planning, organizing and prioritizing work; Knowledge of relevant legislation; Advanced computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Ability to work effectively under pressure; Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
