Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical & Instrumentation Control Engineering, the Technologist, Instrumentation will provide instrumentation services and knowledge for capital projects and instrumentation maintenance. Create or alter application appropriate instrumentation documents, specifications, drawings & packages with a focus on safety, reliability, performance and production improvements or optimization. Provides direction to internal and external stakeholders on instrumentation issues and requirements.

This is a hybrid role, working both remotely and in the office based out of Fort Saskatchewan plant site, following Sherritt\xe2\x80\x99 s Flexible Work Arrangements Policy

Accountabilities

  • Work on multi-discipline teams to support stage gate projects either in a design role or as an owner\xe2\x80\x99s representative. Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure timely and accurate information.
  • Prepare P&ID inputs and instrumentation selection. Create and review instrument indexes, instrument loop diagrams, instrument datasheet and sizing.
  • Create RFQs and instrumentation specifications.
  • Prepare and deliver instrumentation Scope of Work packages, detailed designs, cost estimates to provide formal specifications, drawings, estimates or construction procedures supporting new installations or changes as part of projects.
  • As a subject matter expert, provide instrumentation direction to the process, mechanical, PCA and electrical disciplines ensuring that best practices are understood and followed.
  • Develop and review instrumentation documents, i.e. Engineering and construction work packages, piping/equipment specifications and drawings, and vendor packages.
  • Develop and recommend improvements in design standards to lower costs, improve work quality and facilitate plant maintenance
Qualifications and Skills
  • Instrumentation Engineering Technology Diploma or Engineering Degree specializing and experienced in Instrumentation. (Acceptable professional designations or eligibility include P. Eng., P.L. Eng, P.Tech , C.E.T.).
  • 10+ years of Instrumentation experience. Preference given to candidates with 5+ years working directly in an Instrumentation plant maintenance and commissioning environments.
  • Experience with ISA/ANSI standards. Strong understanding of process P&IDs, control systems, instrument and valve sizing/selection along with the ability to interpret electrical drawings.
  • Experience in Smartplant Instrumentation (formerly Intools) is preferred
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with peers and management at multiple levels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
