  • Assist trades and contractors;
  • Assist Facilities Manager or Supervisor with maintenance work as required;
  • Property maintenance including garbage or waste removal and maintaining both indoor and outdoor areas as required;
  • Operate a forklift to remove garbage or waste, and move pallets, etc.;
  • Purchase and transport of building materials and maintenance supplies;
  • Perform maintenance on lab equipment i.e. changing air and water filters, cleaning scrubber nozzles, and greasing bearings;
  • Complete minor unsupervised building repairs such as painting, carpentry, basic plumbing, etc.;
  • Complete unsupervised mechanical work such as change belts, bearings, shafts and basic equipment repairs etc.;
  • Assess and determine project requirements and call in trades or contractors as necessary;
  • Supervise facility and maintenance projects;
  • Determines required supplies and places orders;
  • Maintains all log books and maintenance records/schedules;
  • Acts as back-up supervisor/manager in the facilities supervisor or manager\xe2\x80\x99s absence;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring quality of work;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Basic HV/AC knowledge;
  • Basic plumbing knowledge;
  • Aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems;
  • Ability to read technical manuals and follow instructions;
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks;
  • Ability to work to achieve deadlines with strong time management and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, integrity and ability to problem solve;
  • Safety-oriented;
  • Comfortable operating a computer and doing clerical work.
Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum BOMA Building Operator Certificate, SMT or SMA designation, relevant formal training (ie. Trade certification) from a technical institution, or experience commensurate and willing and able to obtain relevant certificate or designation;
  • Valid Provincial Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license;
  • 2-3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with building/mechanical/equipment repairs and maintenance;
  • Forklift certificate or experience will be considered an asset (full training will be provided);
  • Ability to perform small repairs and general maintenance skills.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per shift;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Extensive walking or movement, bending, kneeling, and working with equipment/machines;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves, etc., when required;
  • Ability to work in small areas and at various heights;
  • Comfortable in environments with high noise levels;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required;
  • Available for emergency on-call basis 24/7.
  • Please note that ALS Geochemistry operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
