The incumbent is responsible for the non-destructive testing of rail, rail weldments, rail joints, and track associated components.What You Will DoReporting to the Senior Technician, Non Destructive Training (NDT), the incumbent assists with testing of rail, rail weldments, rail joints and other various track components and equipment.This involves:

  • Executing in a safe and efficient manner subway rail testing program in accordance with Operations & Infrastructure Group approved standards;
  • Setting up, calibrating, adjusting and operating a variety of Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, and Liquid Penetrant test equipment;
  • Notifying supervisors of any dangerous conditions found, in accordance with established standards and procedures;
  • Interpreting test results in accordance with applicable acceptance standards and classifying and prioritizing defects for removal in recognition of safety implications. Issuing defect notifications;
  • Maintaining an accurate record keeping system for information such as NDT databases, photographs, documents, etc.;
  • Maintaining and repairing NDT equipment;
  • Maintaining calibration documentation;
  • Required to transport heavy test equipment (50 lbs) to remote locations within the system;
  • Completing forms and test records, and maintaining an accurate information system;
  • Complying with TTC policies, rules, regulations and safe working practices.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
  • Your application includes completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (Quality Engineering - Non Destructive Evaluation) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • Your application demonstrates includes experience, preferably in an area where the operations, techniques and procedures for non-destructive testing are learned;
  • Must have and maintain the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) Standard 48.9712 certification in Level 2 Ultrasonic;
  • Must have and maintain the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) Standard 48.9712 certification in Level 2 Magnetic Particle;
  • Must have and maintain the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) Standard 48.9712 certification in Level 2 Liquid Penetrant;
  • Must have and maintain Level 1 Welding Inspector - CSA Standard W178.2.
  • Knowledge of Civil (Railways) or Mechanical (Strength of Materials) Engineering principles, methods, procedures and practices;
  • Must have sound knowledge of Mathematics (specifically Trigonometry and Algebra), basic research procedures and field survey techniques;
  • Familiarity with the use and care of non-destructive testing equipment and electronics;
  • Must possess good analytical and problem solving skills; effective oral communication and writing skills and familiarity with PC databases and spreadsheets;
  • A valid Province of Ontario Class G driver\'s license is required;
  • Must meet the visual acuity requirements of CGSB-48.9712;
  • Must have, or rapidly acquire, a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
