University Health Network (UHN) is a research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. The scope of research and complexity of cases at UHN have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. Research across UHN's five research institutes spans the full spectrum of diseases and disciplines, including cancer, cardiovascular sciences, transplantation, neural and sensory sciences, musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation sciences, and community and population health.

We are recruiting a highly organized, self-motivated, and collaborative individual to join our team in the De Carvalho Laboratory as a Technician II. Our research in the Princess Margaret Cancer Research Tower focuses on the intersection of epigenetics and the immune system and its application to cancer therapy. The individual will work with our team of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and scientific associates to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the laboratory. We are interested in helping the individual achieve their long-term professional goals and provide an opportunity to develop a variety of skills while working in a dynamic research environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Lab administrative duties as required (updating and renewing biosafety permits and other certificates, organizing meetings, contacting vendors and companies, etc.)
• Maintenance of shared laboratory area
• Equipment upkeep (training new users, coordinating scheduled maintenance and repairs as needed, etc.)
• General lab maintenance duties as required (handling reagent orders, keeping and maintaining inventory, preparation of reagents/buffers, etc.)
• Specific experimental assistance as needed
• Creating and updating SOPs, REBs, Biosafety Certificates, etc.
• On-boarding new team members and off-boarding departing ones

Qualifications:

• Have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related life sciences fields
• Have a minimum one year of experience working in a research laboratory environment
• Have experience in basic molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting, etc.) and mammalian tissue culture
• Possess excellent time management and organizational skills, strong ability to multitask and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Possess flexibility and ability to adapt to the needs of the lab
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Be collaborative, as well as, has ability to work independently and take initiative
