Technical Writer
At Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., we present an outstanding opportunity for a Technical Writer in our Engineering team. This role positions you at the forefront of constructing and maintaining world-class product information for our Lab Automation (LA) hardware and software product lines. Join us to work closely with innovative R&D teams and develop flawless HTML5 help systems, training videos, and other educational resources aimed at empowering our end-users!
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Technical Writer will be responsible for:

  • Crafting outstanding product information for various robotics and automation software products.
  • Crafting customized, client-specific HTML5 system guides.
  • Coordinating the translation of product information into multiple languages.
  • Maintaining product information for the library of software drivers used by the LA group.
  • Drafting IQOQ procedural documentation for use by LA field service technicians.
  • Facilitating the transition from a PDF/print documentation library to an HTML5-based help system.
  • Developing procedural videos and other multimedia educational resources.
  • Mentoring junior technical writers and providing instruction regarding procedures, tools, and standards.
  • Performing regular copyedits and substantive reviews, and offering constructive feedback to other team members.
  • Participating in R&D team meetings, trainer and service technician debriefings, and SME interviews.
  • Proactively identifying new product developments that require documentation.
  • Tracking and recording product information-related tasks and projects.
  • Implementing various documentation process-improvement initiatives.
  • Assisting with other documentation-related projects, as needed.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Three-to-five years' experience in Technical Communications or a related field.
  • A degree or equivalent experience in a Communications-related field.
  • More academic certifications and/or expertise in producing video, e-learning, and other multimedia content.
  • Having a background in pharmaceutical, software, engineering, regulatory, or other science-related fields would be advantageous.
Knowledge & Skills
The ideal candidate will showcase:
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the English language.
  • Proficiency with MadCap Flare and its supporting applications.
  • Familiarity with TechSmith Camtasia (preferred) or an equivalent video-editing application.
  • Understanding of HTML5, CSS, and XML in an authoring environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Interest in learning on the job and quickly applying new knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to provide constructive criticism and mentor junior team members.
  • Having familiarity with translation and localization is advantageous.
