Spaans Babcock Inc. (SBI), based in Barrie, Ontario, is a subsidiary of Spaans Babcock B.V., a Netherlands-headquartered manufacturer of wastewater treatment equipment, including screw pumps, fine screens, aerators, and screw generators.
SBI is a small, project-based organization responsible for sales, marketing, project management, and after-sales service across Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean. Operating in a niche technical market across a vast territory requires close collaboration with European engineering teams, an extensive independent sales representative network across North America, and frequent interaction with municipalities, contractors, and consultants.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Technical Sales Manager will own and develop SBI's North American territory. This role combines technical sales leadership, solution selling, bid management, and sales-rep network oversight in a long-cycle, project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Ability to engage with engineers, consultants, sales representatives and stakeholders early in the project to influence technical specifications and project designs in a manner that aligns with and highlights Spaans Babcock's products.
Support and enable the sales representative network with solution selling.
Identify and pursue new opportunities across North America.
Lead technical aspects of RFP/RFI responses and bid preparation.
Manage long sales cycles and strategic deals.
Evaluate and manage sales rep performance.
Negotiate contracts with municipalities, purchasers, or end-users.
Coordinate between factory engineering teams and North American stakeholders.
Deliver technical presentations and product demos.
Collect and document competitive intelligence.
Occasional travel across North American and Europe.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Minimum 5 years experience in technical or engineering sales.
Experience in wastewater industry is an asset.
Strong experience in RFP/RFI.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
