POSITION OVERVIEW


The Technical Sales Consultant is an integral part of SaskTel’s Marketing and Business Sales teams – representing Marketing’s interests and fulfilling their strategic direction through the product support that they provide to Sales, and by working with Sales to effectively position and sell SaskTel’s information and communication technology solutions to Business Customers. This position will work with SaskTel's business clients in all areas and levels of the clients' organization; in strategic and technical planning, architecture, high level design and evolution of converged communications/IT solutions that will advance the client’s business goals. Working with the account teams, the Technical Sales Consultant provides value-add to the client through technical, visionary, business, competitive differentiating and influencing skills. The Technical Sales Consultant is accountable for supporting the account teams in selling to customers by accurately aligning customer requirements to solution capabilities based on the technical specifications of both the customer environment and the solution set, interfacing with SaskTel’s delivery teams to ensure accurate solution designs and proposals are provided to clients, and, for assisting in the achievement of revenue and profitability targets for the portfolio which they prime.

People


  • Leads, directs and manages staff to ensure the effective use of HR resources. Maximizes performance by selecting (hire external or promote from within), developing, mentoring and sustaining a high level of expertise among staff. Organize and direct work including prioritizing assignments, establishing objectives, providing regular performance feedback, conducting year end performance appraisals and taking necessary corrective action as may be required. Assists in staff career planning, establishes development and succession plans and ensures relevant HR procedures and policies are followed (provisions of the collective agreement , performance appraisals, discipline, grievance, etc). Accountable for provisioning and managing contracted resources as may be required.
  • Accountable for promoting a productive and positive environment for staff that encourages innovation, teamwork, initiative and models corporate values. Motivates staff by assigning challenging work, planning and managing internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, plans and activities.
  • Ensures all safety, health, environmental and code of conduct policies, programs and standards are understood and complied with at all times.
  • Proactively identify and action opportunities to increase customer satisfaction (internal and external customers.)

Financial

  • Ensure sound financial control within area of responsibility by developing annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring performance to budget and taking action as appropriate. Develops, negotiates and implements contracts for acquisition of goods & services related to area of responsibility.

Innovation

  • Accountable to research, develop, define and implement innovative long and short term plans, policies and objectives. Provides expertise to senior management providing education, studies and consulting on opportunities that will impact business strategy. Ensures alignment and integration with the corporate strategic plan and develops plan and operational metrics, including approaches for demonstrating business value.
  • Accountable to proactively identify and action opportunities to improve revenue and growth initiatives, decrease costs, increase customer service levels and increase employee engagement.
  • Accountable to develop opportunities to spark innovation in technology or product service delivery or process improvements.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Accountable for providing the Sales Account Teams with general product support and in a technical capacity such customer- facing activities as technical qualification of sales opportunities; development and definition of sales strategies and sales propositions, and promotion of SaskTel’s business solutions to customers. This involves interfacing with and developing relationships with customers’ technical personnel and middle and upper management.
  • Accountable for driving opportunity engagement profitability from pursuit to delivery. This involves managing opportunity risk and may include managing SaskTel partnerships.
  • Working collaboratively with Sales, accountable for sales funnel development from technical qualification to close of sales opportunities, and specifically for assisting in the achievement of
    revenue targets for the applicable portfolio assigned.
  • Develops and maintains expertise on current and emerging technologies and provides leadership within SaskTel and customer organizations regarding the impacts of and management of transition to these technologies.
  • Accountable for approving sales proposal pricing and profitability (within Marketing's defined pricing parameters), for quality assurance of all sales documentation, and for reviewing and ensuring sales
    contracts accuracy for the solutions portfolio for which this position is prime.
  • Acquires and applies knowledge of trends and of the competitive environments in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry and in customer industries to position SaskTel within customers' business plans.
  • Influences the evolution and development of existing and new SaskTel products and services to ensure that they will meet the current and future needs of SaskTel customers.
  • Provides a technical leadership role, owns the sales relationship with vendors and partners, builds a foundation of support within SaskTel and its vendors/partners, and leverages the associated relationships in the best interests of SaskTel and SaskTel's customers.
  • Provides consulting, coaching and/or mentoring to Sale Account Teams, Customer Systems Analysts, and others in regard to customer technical requirements, plans, solutions and the associated technologies.
  • As appropriate, participates in/manages the development of business cases and internal projects and/or assists clients in developing business cases through the appropriate life cycle of integrated
    communications/IT solutions.
  • Maintains knowledge of current and emerging methodologies, standards, guidelines and tools associated with fulfillment of the above accountabilities and recommends/influences use of these within SaskTel.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Systems Engineering or Computer Science OR Dual Bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with three years of systems experience OR Degree or Certificate in Business Administration or Commerce, OR equivalent education and/or experience with a minimum of 5 years of significant and relevant sales/consulting experience in ICT.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and effectively communicate technological concepts to clients at various organizational levels using both written and verbal methods. This also involves the ability to identify influential people and to cultivate, sustain, and leverage client relationships throughout all levels of an organization.
  • Thorough knowledge ICT products/services.
  • Outstanding consultative selling skills, analytical skills and business acumen with demonstrated knowledge of business fundamentals including finance, marketing, business, planning and communication.
  • Extensive knowledge of competitive communication industry trends, ICT issues and technologies and ability to apply it to develop business solutions or to influence the deployment of such technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and lead others towards a shared technical vision and to plan and manage the associated work effectively.
  • Understanding of the change process and demonstrated ability to drive or influence change within an organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of SaskTel's corporate and network structures.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and various software applications.
  • Maintain relevant skills, knowledge and certifications as applicable.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent ability to plan and organize in a self directed environment.
  • Excellent decision making ability.
  • Valid Driver's license.
