Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada\'s largest research and technology organization.

We are looking for a Technical Officer to support the Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The primary purpose of the position is to provide specialized technical support services to a wide variety of Semiconductor and Photonics Manufacturing suite of equipment and facility infrastructure. The position is also involved in experiments/test preparation, laboratory, and equipment maintenance. The Technical Officer may also participate in project management related activities.

The successful candidate will be required to support our expanding manufacturing organization on shift work on a rotational basis.

Education

Post-secondary education in a Robotics, Controls, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical Engineering technology, or scientific discipline related to the position.

Experience
  • Basic experience with the safe operation, maintenance, verification, repair and or installation of semiconductor, photonic manufacturing, or other electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Basic experience with testing, trouble shooting and repair of electrical, mechanical equipment, vacuum pumps and vacuum systems.
  • Basic experience in the use of hand tools, power tools and material handling equipment.
  • Experience with project management related activities, including providing technical guidance.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies
  • Knowledge of safe practices for working with chemicals, compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, and electrical, mechanical, and vacuum systems.
  • Knowledge of best practices for Preventive Maintenance of manufacturing or facilities support equipment.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety regulations required to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment within the laboratory environment and its affiliated office space.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and electronics diagnosis/repair.

Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC\'s directives.

Compensation

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
