Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • The Technical Director \xe2\x80\x93 Environment and Society Mining, Minerals and Metals opening is a full-time position, offering a flexible operating base within Worley Consulting\xe2\x80\x99s Regulatory Advice Practice, focused on the national mining sector, and supporting the international sector. Our Regulatory Approvals, Permitting, and Compliance Team seeks someone with excellent technical delivery and communication skills and who is eager to work with and support a group of dynamic individuals and contribute to the growth of our Practice.
  • Promote a culture of zero harm within the business.
  • Drive the E&S - MMM business development across North America supporting the business needs, by working with our other MMM business development Directors (Geosciences, Liability Risk & Remediation, Water).
  • Develop and grow the E&S MMM team in Canada, targeting Worley\xe2\x80\x99s key hubs in Markham, Ontario, Calgary, and Vancouver, and additionally providing support and collaboration to colleagues and clients in the US.
  • Support ongoing development of the Worley Consulting\xe2\x80\x99s MMM business in LATAM
  • Support the development and implementation of E&S strategies that are consistent with the divisional and regional E&S Service Line plans.
  • Developing business, winning work, and providing support to large bid teams, including presentations, negotiations, proposal preparation including, developing, and reviewing engineering cost estimates and schedules.
  • Participating actively and effectively in business developments such as presentations, negotiations, proposal preparation/writing etc.
  • Team leadership including mentoring and coaching to junior staff and identify relevant career development opportunities, recruitment, resourcing and in collaboration with other E&S Leads to ensure staffing levels are adequate for project needs.
  • Direct and support E&S \xe2\x80\x93 MMM pursuits throughout Canada and the US, with a willingness to travel as needed for short term duration.
  • International travel may be required.
  • Integrate with multi-discipline engineering and geoscience professionals within Worley.
  • Oversee the technical competency, maintenance, and progression of the E&S mining area of expertise, including resourcing.
  • Functional responsibility to align and drive the practice and manage resources to opportunities throughout locations and across the region.
  • Aggregates information (projects, experience, knowledge base etc) per the Practice requirements and drives RD/BD for the practice.
  • Monitor project execution with respect to the discipline technical and quality standards.
  • Prepare industry and client intelligence reports and forecasts and present to E&S Service Line management as required.
  • Present new opportunities to the E&S (Regulatory) team and wider Worley practice.
  • Coordinate with the E&S \xe2\x80\x93 MMM and Regulatory Department Manager and the other team members to ensure staffing levels are adequate for project needs.
  • Direct within and as part of an integrated delivery team within our business, comprising of other engineering disciplines, professional environmental scientists, project delivery and project support staff on existing and new Worley Consulting/Worley MMM projects.
Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or master\xe2\x80\x99s degree from an accredited institution plus appropriate continuing education in engineering, sciences, or equivalent.
  • Hold a registered professional designation.
  • A minimum of 20 years of related experience practicing in mining including mining practices and mining related regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of developing business, winning work, and providing support to large bid teams, preparing proposals, and developing engineering and capital cost estimates.
  • Demonstrate the ability to direct a multi-discipline team in fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated history of effective client engagement, relationships, and management.
  • Ability to present technical information, both written and verbally, in a concise and professional manner.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter, flexible team leader, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks and to coordinate staff, previous successful experience in a team leadership role is an asset.
  • Strong level of commercial acumen, including cash collection, workshare, change management and contract review and management
  • Demonstrated capability to conduct and supervise geotechnical engineering through field investigations to design, and train, mentor and develop junior and intermediate staff.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard business support systems, i.e., project planning packages, cost management systems, ISO9001 quality management systems is considered an asset.
For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $175,232 to $257,694.
