Reporting to the Academic Strategy and Operations Manager, in the School of Manufacturing & Automation, the position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day maintenance and operations of our lab/shop spaces.

Key Responsibilities:




Lead and supervise a group of staff that support educational delivery in the lab & shop environments (Educational lab Technologists, Machinists, and Maintenance Service Workers) within the Manufacturing & Automation programs on main campus. Source and purchase shop supplies, consumables, equipment, PPE and parts required to support day-to-day training requirements, shop and lab activities. Coordinate and oversee maintenance and repair of equipment to ensure functionality and safety. Liaise with program leadership and NAIT purchasing department on capital purchases, including assisting with sourcing equipment and finding appropriate vendor quotes. Create world class training aids. Monitor budget expenditures for non-staff costs in a prudent and responsible manner. Use and maintain a procurement card within guidelines as required, this includes correctly coding invoices to send to accounts payable. Manage work in shops to ensure they align with curriculum guides. Lead the safety committee for the Manufacturing & Automation Tech. Services department. Oversee shipping and receiving activities for program area. Organize and facilitate team meetings and workshops to ensure effective communication among team members Ensure the Manufacturing & Automation Tech Services Department's Shops and Tool Cribs are maintained in a clean and professional fashion. Ensure Manufacturing & Automation Tech Services Department staff receives the necessary professional development, training, support and guidance to stay up to date with best practices in industry Identify areas of improvement to streamline operations. This includes implementing new technologies or operational innovations to improve efficiency of shop and lab activities. Prepare any necessary disposal / transfer paperwork for the Manufacturing & Automation Tech. Services Department's Programs inventory. Act as Program point of contact during summer months during program leadership team's annual vacation and main campus vacation coverage of other Tech supervisors where required.

Qualifications:




Completion of grade twelve Related post secondary education Minimum 5 years experience Experience in Machining, Mechanical engineering/trades or Materials Engineering would be an asset Class 5 drivers license required. NOTE: department may service other programs at multiple campuses, travel is required. Equivalencies may be considered.



Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).




Remuneration

: $67,738.32 - $91,093.60 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Technologist IV).


This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
