  • Read, interpret and study plans, drawings and sketches to determine technical specifications and calculate material requirements.
  • Prepare layouts, using measuring tools, taking into account building code requirements.
  • Measure, cut, shape and assemble components made of wood, chipboard, light steel or other materials.
  • Erect foundations, install floor beams, lay flooring support, assemble pre-assembled structural and roofing elements.
  • Fit and install millwork (such as interior doors, moldings, shelves, storage space, wall coverings, wood stairs, wood flooring and hardware, etc.).
  • Build partitions and finish building interiors.
  • Maintain, repair and renovate housing and wooden structures in factories, mines, hospitals, industrial facilities and other establishments.
  • Install integrated furnishings (such as countertops, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, etc.).
  • May prepare estimates for customers.
  • May supervise the work of apprentices and day laborers.
  • Basic geometric and mathematical knowledge is essential for the design and layout of structures. Computer skills are increasingly required to use the software available in this field.
