MacEwan University is seeking a Team Lead, Digital Networks for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Information Technology Services department.


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Networks & Data Centre Services, the Team Lead, Digital Networks, is responsible for the design, development, and modernization of MacEwan's wired, wireless, and hybrid network infrastructure. You will combine architectural expertise with supervisory responsibility for the network administration team, overseeing daily operations, prioritizing workloads, and guiding their work to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performing network operations. You will also collaborate closely with other ITS teams and university stakeholders to align network services with institutional objectives, supporting cloud adoption, cybersecurity initiatives, and digital modernization efforts. Additionally, you will be responsible for network design, security, and performance optimization, working in partnership with cybersecurity, systems, and project management teams to deliver an integrated, resilient, and future-ready network environment that supports the university's academic, research, and administrative goals.


Key responsibilities include:

Supervising, mentoring, and supporting the network administration team, including assignment, prioritization, and monitoring of workload and performance, professional development, onboarding, preparing schedules, and finding coverage for absences; Conducting regular team meetings to communicate goals, updates, and best practices; Fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning; In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Cloud Services & Architecture, contributing to the development of short-term and longer-term network strategies and roadmaps that align with institutional and ITS goals and modernization initiatives; Engaging with university stakeholders to understand networking requirements and translate them into robust, standards-based designs that meet business, academic, and technical needs; Serving as the technical escalation point for complex network issues, providing technical guidance and removing barriers to success; Coordinating daily workflow within the network team, ensuring effective deployment of resources to meet operational and project objectives; Implementing and enforcing network security best practices, supporting compliance with institutional cybersecurity frameworks; and Ensuring all network changes adhere to IT change management policies to minimize service disruptions and maintain operational integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS



A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, or a related field. Certifications in Cisco (CCNP or CCIE), AWS/Azure Networking, or Security+. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in networking within a complex technical environment, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role. Proven track record of designing, implementing, and securing complex network environments. Extensive experience in hybrid cloud networking and direct cloud peering solutions. Strong knowledge of network automation, scripting (Python), and orchestration tools. Demonstrated ability to lead multi-million-dollar network transformation projects. Experience in a post-secondary institution or large-scale enterprise network is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS



This position works 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. However, the nature of the position requires the Team Lead to participate in support, coverage and escalations for the ITS On-call schedule as well as work some weekends and evenings to support the operations.
