:In order to ensure your application is received by NAIT for thorough review and consideration, please apply directly through our Careers site atThe Team Lead Back of House, Culinary Market employee is responsible for overseeing the daily kitchen operations of the student culinary market at NAIT. This role involves culinary expertise, management skills, customer service, inventory management, staff supervision and maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the back of house area.Key Responsibilities:

  • Have the ability and knowledge to answer customer questions related to information, including availability of products.
  • Monitor inventory levels, track stock movements, ordering supplies and update inventory records.
  • Menu planning and collaboration with instructors and staff.
  • Develop and implement systems to streamline kitchen workflows, minimize waste and optimize resource use.
  • Monitor food preparation and conduct regular quality checks.
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation practices, complying with health regulations and policies.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained.
  • Assist with the hiring of staff.
  • Identify training and professional development needs of staff.
  • Train staff.
  • Schedule activities.
  • Open and close the service location (key holder).
  • Report customer feedback to supervisor.
  • Identify inefficiencies and make recommendations regarding services, policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with other NAIT departments.
  • Other duties as related.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong communication, teamwork, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products.
  • Ability to lift boxes of product up to 50 lbs., plus stand/walk for the majority of the shift.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Good understanding of food service industry standards including WHMIS, HACCP (Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point), safety and food sanitation.
  • Good understanding of equipment used and methods related to the preparation of food.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Experience in food and/or hospitality environment including supervisory experience.
  • Customer service and supervisory related training courses an asset.
  • Equivalencies may be considered.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).Remuneration: $41,486.38 - $51,603.24 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
